Induction questions
After talking to my OB today it got me to thinking about the methods of
induction. They offer Cervidil or AROM or AROM w/ pitocin. Does anyone what to share with my their experiences with those methods or others? TIA! -- Jenn -WAHM -DS Feb'92 -DD Feb'97 -Jellyfish due June 25/04 (expected early June) |

Does anyone what to share with my their experiences with those methods or others? I was induced by first placing a pill (I'm sorry I don't remember the name of the med) on my cervix to get me to dilate to 5cm. They had to place that med 2-3 times. Then AROM at 5cm. I was post dates and it was my second pregnancy. It went off with out hitch. -- Nikki Mama to Hunter (5) and Luke (3) |

I was given a "gentle induction" with PIT, as I was attempting a VBAC. My dd never descended and I never dilated beyond 2-3 cm, so I was given a repeat c-section. Nan |

Does anyone what to share with my their experiences with those methods or others? TIA! Just at my birth class this weekend (refresher for repeat parents) one of the women was induced last time. She had two days of pitocin and never got anywhere. The end of day 2 they turned off the pitocin and did the cervadil, it was supposed to be overnight, to ripen her cervix and pitocin the next day. The cervadil kicked her labor into high gear. She did end up with some pitocin augmentation, but everything went without a hitch. She's hoping to avoid induction this time, but if it comes around, she'll insist on the cervadil if her cervix needs ripening, before they start the pitocin. Mary |

Induction questions
I would avoid all induction like the plague - you never know it will affect
you, and you never know how it will affect each pregnancy. In general, if you do decide to induce, try the least invasive methods first and leave Pitocin as a last resort. Also, IME, the closer you are to delivering naturally, the more likely the induction will work smoothly. Be aware that methods like AROM, if you are not ready and do not "progress," are likely to snowball into complications you might not welcome, like a c-section. For my third child, I was talked (bullied and scared) into an induction. I agreed to Cervidil. The insertion actually hurt a bit. As I was already slightly dilated and was post dates (and probably would have given birth shortly anyway), it did lead to productive contractions within a few hours and my body took over from there. However, I walked for several hours and was surprised that I didn't progress more than a cm. and then agreed to AROM about 10 hours after the Cervidil. I gave birth a few hours later. I agreed to the AROM as the baby's head was already down very deep and there was no elevated cord danger. My personal opinion is that the AROM produced more painful contractions ( I don't take pain meds). For my second child, I had no inductions, no interventions, and certainly no medications. It was absolutely fantastic and an experience of which I shall always be proud. For my first, I had Pitocin and it was a nightmare. The baby was not ready to come and I was out of my mind with escalating, unrelenting, unproductive contractions, hour after hour. Karen "Fer" wrote in message news:9Mxlc.11903$LA4.5377@edtnps84... Does anyone what to share with my their experiences with those methods or others? AROM tends to work well with multips who are really ready to go. Apparently, studies suggest that AROM and pitocin work best together in most other situations. I fergit about Cervidil right now, but I could look it up if I get a chance later. I keep mixing up which trade names go with which actual types of drugs ;-) Best wishes, Ericka |

A lot of the ladies seem to report ridiculously fast labours (1-1/2 hours)after using it, both multi-par and prim mothers. That concerns me a little since with both my other children I went into active labor immediately and my second was only a four hours. Also after having my NST yesterday and speaking to one of the head nurses she has only had two laboring women that have used it. It seems that our hospital *just* got it. I don't know, I don't know.....I am hoping that I either go into labor early (37wks +) or at least I am ripe for AROM. Thanks for the info -?
