I am just wondering if it's a good idea to try to loose weight while in my
first trimester. I am 5'3 and I weigh 142 pounds. Though I don't look fat
my breast are huge and I have a donut around my waist. But before I
actually begin gaining pregnancy weigh I would like to loose the fat. Is
that insane or reasonable.. help

I am not an expert but I do not believe it is ever recomended that you loose
weight at any point of pregnancy.. I imagine that you will be recomended to
eat healthier dropping out any soda, junk food or unhealthy calories also
you will be told to excersize so those combined my make you lose weight
anyway. I always do when I follow a healthy pregnancy diet.

Not smart, or advised, to lose weight while pregnant. During the first
trimester you'll probably lose, or not gain, if you have morning sickness,
food aversions, etc...Some women also lose weight cos they're
suddenly/finally eating healthy.

Congrats BTW

It is not reasonable to try to lose weight while
pregnant, even if you are overweight. Doing so can limit
nutrients to the baby that the baby needs to grow and
develop properly. Never try to diet while pregnant.

That said, you don't need to eat huge quantities
of food while pregnant in order to be healthy, and some
women who are overweight find that they either lose
weight or only gain very little during pregnancy while
eating a healthy, varied diet with plenty of calories
to support a healthy pregnancy.

Bridget Swinney's book _Eating Expectantly_ is
a very good guide to how much of what sorts of nutrients
you need during each trimester.

Best wishes,
Ericka

Well, I'm the same height and started my pregnancy around the same
weight (within a pound or two!). I also have large breasts and the
extra fat around my abdomen. Maybe we're twins?? I kept a fairly
healthy diet and exercised lightly 5-6 times a week throughout and have
ended up losing a small amount of body fat, while gaining healthy pg
weight.

Don't try and lose weight - just eat well and exercise, and you may end
up losing some of the fat anyway. My own priority was feeling fit and
energetic, rather than being "thin".
