Gee MEG I happen to disagree with you.
Further I think yer fulla ****.

So much in fact here you go.
I bet ten dollars to every pound of your horse ****
you can bring on tobacco is not narcotic.

No, its not a narcotic. Its a stimulant. That makes it more similar to, say,
crack than it is to heroin. But if the best argument you can come up with is
quibbling with that minor error in terminology, you should give up and go
home right now. See Sin Nombre's post below for an example of what an actual
rebuttal might look like.
However, its all academic. Tobacco taxes are totally a voluntary
donation. Its not like income taxes or even your drivers license, you have a
choice. If you think the tax is unfair in any way, just don't buy it. How
simple is that?

The only similarity one can see is your an asshole like her.
Cigarettes are drugs, hard dope right.
Crack, crank, heroin and other shocking drugs.
Hogwash.
Hey knuckle head....this is a group that isn't looking
for your bulwart.
No Tax is a voluntary donation.
So if the taxing is fair, just tax food.. All of it.
To the rate of 20% after all farmers are getting subsidized
all the time.
Making statement like your's are in effect bringing about
more assholes like MEG.
The next time your cars are trapped in the center lane
between two trucks, going down a winding road,
like the W.Va turnpike maybe the two of you would feel
safer if the truckers were using narcotics, heroin, crack,
PCP and any other drug you liken cigarettes to:
instead of cigarettes and say.. coffee.

Take your kids in the car...
They'll probably turn out to be assholes too.

Hey Cog Sukka?

Nah that's a rebuttal...l'd say.
Go away and cry your eyes out at

Of course it is. Who is forcing you to buy? Just say "no, thank you".

Did you mean "Now thats a rebuttal"? Or Nah (slang for NO)?
First way at least makes sense. Mistaken, but it makes sense.

Which group is that?

Hmmm, I'm not so sure that is the case. But let's say that it is.

Is it the government's job to legislate morality? Isn't that what a tax
on tobacco basically is? They are attempting to make it price
prohibited because they do not wish for people to smoke. In taxing
tobacco products, they are encouraging black market purchase of tobacco
products for no good reason other than some people do not wish for
others to smoke. That or they feel that the portion of the population
should pay more than their share of taxes.

By the same reasoning, would a prohibitive tax on alcohol, or "junk
food" or gas or pick-your-vice be appropriate? After all, they are
voluntary. For that matter, isn't tax on food? Can't you grow your own
food? A silly argument to be sure, but it has as much relevance.

The question should be:

What is the justification for a tobacco tax?

Is it to get people to quit?
Is it to pay for the "cost to society"?
IS it an effort to get an addicted minority to pay for more than their
share of services that everyone uses?

Taxes on cigarettes account for the majority of the cost of a pack of
cigarettes. Wouldn't it also be justified to do the same for gasoline?
Or "junk" food?

So if the taxing is fair, just tax food.. All of it.

Not the same at all. You HAVE to eat.

But you do not have to eat all types of food. And some food is
"healthier" for you than others. Could we tax all foods but have an
exception for certain amounts of health food?

You need 1500-2000 calories a day. Can we tax any amount over that?

What makes you think nicotine "does nothing for you"?

I also enjoy music, reading, spectator sports, not procreation sex and
video games. What do those do for me? Are they also stupid?

Or do you just label activities that you do not happen to enjoy as "stupid"?

pdx.general?
Hello out there in Western Canada.
Thanks for helping Mel on the travel newsgroup.
If you could go back and tell him to leave his laptop at home.
The American customs, at Windsor, are pulling over as many people as possible
for any minor reason, just to hold things up.
