Default Due date question, and Med question

Have been TTC for a couple of months. Last period was March 26. Yesterday
(April 19) I got a positive on a regular EPT home test (by regular I mean it
is NOT the one that says you can test up to 5 days before your next period,
it's the one that says you can test on the day you're due- it also mentions
you CAN test earlier but it's not recommended, I assume because it's not the
most sensitive test but I digress)..so I guesstimate conception as March
31-April 5 or so.

Just wondering, do you think my due date is likely to be January or
February??? I am thinking mid February is likely but wondered if someone
here is more clear on how it would be calculated. I just want to know what
month. Thanks! The doctor will see me around 8 weeks so I'm still weeks away
from that.

1 more quick, OT question. Last week, about exactly a week ago, I had a bad
migraine. I knew I was TTC but I thought we missed it this month. I also had
an extremely stuffy nose which I thought might be making the migraine worse,
so I took a Zyrtec-D and one triptan type migraine medicine. I am not on any
other medications (except the OB called me in some regular Zyrtec
antihistamine before I knew I was pregnant, they told me it was preferable
to take plain Zyrtec while TTC but I *could* take Zyrtec-D and switch as
soon as I knew I was pregnant- they also told me to avoid triptan migraine
medications and ibuprofen during the second half of my cycles until I
conceived. The reasoning was it was safe to think during and just after a
period I was not pregnant, and safer to avoid in the second half because I
could be pregnant but not positive test yet). Well, they told me that about
the triptan after I had already taken one, and I only took 1 because it was
SO bad).

Should I worry about having taken a dose of the migraine medication so
early? In my first pregnancy I avoided them completely. I just want to feel
reasonably ok that it wouldn't have been able to do any harm so early as it
would have been less than 2 weeks after when I think conception occurred.
Thanks... I really tried to avoid it while TTC but that was an extremely bad
headache and Tylenol does not do a thing. The OB told me if Tylenol doesn't
do it I should ask for narcotics, rather than anything else, because
narcotics don't cause developmental problems and are ok taken as-needed but
not regularly. (My problem is that narcotics alone often don't help migraine
for me, but with my last pregnancy, my migraines got a lot better and I also
found that when I started having headaches later in pregnancy that taking
Tylenol and a nap DID help. Narcotics sort of cause a rebound headache or
make the pounding worse, especially Vicodin. Meprozine (demerol/phenergan
pills) are about the only narcotic pain relievers that help rather than
hinder migraine for me and the OB said that also is fine during pregnancy if
limited in use..they keep telling me to stay away from Aleve and ibuprofen,
well, I already know that, lol.

Well, based on LMP your due date would be 12/31. If you're
thinking you ovulated early, then the due date would perhaps end
up being earlier.

What's done is done and I wouldn't worry about it.
It also sounds like your doctor is relatively conservative about
this. If you find that what your doctor suggests isn't doing
the trick for controlling pain while pregnant, I would seek
out a specialist to work with who has more in depth knowledge
about what might be safe to take during pregnancy. There are
probably more drugs that would be reasonably safe than he
is comfortable recommending.

Best wishes,
Ericka

That early? Wow..I was expecting it to be January for sure, possibly Feb. I
can't fathom a December baby =) I went a week early last time. I can't wait
to see what the u/s dates me..

This info came via his nurse, and I forgot to mention that she told me this
because I mentioned wanting to err on the side of caution- she DID tell me
that the OBs will probably tell me it's not that big of a deal to take an
occasional ibuprofen or something later on. This is a completely different
OB group than the one that delivered my first, and I have to say they seem
much less conservative than the first group. My first pregnancy had me
seeing Obs who only approved an antihistamine and Tylenol, nothing else.
Well, anti-depressants would have been approved but that wasn't an issue for
me. I can't remember anything else being on their approved list of
medications that they sent home with me, I probably still have it somewhere.
Phenergan was approved for nausea and they said use pseudoephedrine
sparingly. That's all I remember. Thanks for the quick reply!

I am really curious now as to whether an u/s is going to place my due date
in December. I never even imagined that. (I do seem to have been ovulating
earlier than usual because my cycles are shorter, a normal cycle for me used
to be 29-35 days, always more than 28, and lately it has been 27
consistently- I don't know what was up with that!)

well pregnancy is 40 weeks, which comes out at 9mths and a week, but that's
from your LMP, not ovulation, it's 38 weeks from ovulations. The easiest way
to get a due date is to add 7 days to the date of your LMP, so 31 March,
then forwards 9, or back 3 mths, which is December 31st, though that doesn't
always come out spot on with the different lenghts of months.

Assuming you were 14 days pregnant when you got the positive test, that
would put conception on 5th April, or day 12 of your cycle, putting it back
to 29th December, you could have got the positive a bit sooner than day 14,
but if you usually have short cycles and you conceive earlier, it could be
later than day 14. EDD is an estimate, but it very much looks like you are
having a Christmas baby, maybe a new year baby if you are later than last
time (not the average, but actually more than likely if you were early last
time).

Congratulations! As the others have said, based on 40 weeks from your
LMP, our due date is 31/12/07. This is a nice page
http://pregnancy.parenthood.com/pregcal.html enter your LMP date, and it
tells you all the stages, with you being 3 weeks pg at the moment (likely
conception date being Arpil 9th.

I can't help with the meds tho - sorry

Even by basic finger counting, if you start with conception in April, and
count April as month 1, Month 9 would be December. Do you have normal
regular cycles? Are they 28 days, or do they tend to be longer or shorter?

From the Due Date Calculator on BabyCenter, based on LMP of March 26th, your
due date would be December 30th, as Ericka said, but you would only be 3
weeks pregnant based on a normal 28 day cycle, and you would have tested
positive on cd26. If you ovulated on the early side of your range (March
31 to April 5), then your due date is actually December 22, and if you
calculate it based on the late side of your range, then it would be December
27th. Either which way, nowhere near mid-February! So really, the December
31st date isn't that far off, and would probably be your safest bet. A New
Year's baby! Whooo hooo!

What's done is done and I wouldn't worry about it.

27 consistently is still pretty normal -- just 1 day off average. For you
to have a Mid-January baby, you would have to conceive sometime next week
and for you to have a Mid-February baby, you would have to conceive around
the end of May. So again, definately not a January/February baby, unless
you normally gestate for 10-11 months...

I think about the same as everyone else and depending on your body
size, shape, and the way your hormons that mixed with on the day of the
date you got pregnat I say last few days of dec to fist few days of
jan. Although an oopsy babys are the best kind! And just because a doc
says your due that day doesn't mean he or she will come that day.
Babys come into the world when they are ready. Good luck.
