Are there any alternatives to misc.kids.*?

There has to be a good Web-based forum somewhere where
discussions remain on topic, without the trolls, x-posts,
and flame wars. The Usenet groups have been pretty
good but the signal/noise ratio seems to be gradually
deteriorating. It's only a matter of time before the
spam shows up.

Hah. I've never seen a good Web-based discussion forum anywhere,
unless they're the kind where posts get only a few responses. If I'm
reading headers properly, you're reading this through Google. Getting
a proper newsreader will dramatically improve your Usenet experience.

Killfile, killfile, killfile.

I think the "real" posts dwindle, percentage-wise, during
the holidays. The ratio should get better, as it seems to
ebb and flow as opposed to following one direction.
If there is a way on your system to killfile crossposted
messages, which is where 90% of the drek comes from,
then you'll have a cleaner newsgroup environment, I bet.

That was my reaction as well: google really sucks as a newsreader.

I haven't found a web-based forum that matches newsgroups for general
useability. But to be honest, I haven't looked very hard.

You can always check out the test Usenet group misc.kids.family-life, a
very lightly moderated forum with minimal trolls, flames or spam for six
months now. For information on how to sign up go to:
http://www.gweep.ca/~robomod/misc.kids.family-life/

Hope to see you there. All are welcome and we have a great community
forming, which was the initial impetus around attempting to start this new
group -- a strong focus on community with zero content restrictions and
very light moderation.
