Looks like the jury fell for it
I may have to refocus my amorous intentions. I've got nowhere with Anna
Nicole Smith, and Leona Helmsley hasn't been returning my calls. Of course, $10 million isn't comparable to what Anna Nicole and Leona got from their men. But still, a good chunk of $10 million's not to be sniffed at. Does anyone have Margaret Horvath's e-mail address? And is there any way I could be sure of getting the same jury for my case, when Ms. Horvath tires of me? "Tiffany" wrote in message ... "P.Fritz" wrote in message ... "Jury says love, or something like it, worth $10 million " April 24, 2004 BY MARSHA LOW FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER Multimillionaire William Hubner repeatedly told his former lover that they would "finish the way we started." It was his way of saying that when they parted, he would leave with his fortune intact, and she with nothing. An Oakland County jury decided otherwise Friday, awarding Margaret Horvath $10 million and a Birmingham condo. Horvath received the verdict with sobs of relief and joy. It ended a two-week palimony trial that opened a window onto the couple's world-hopping lifestyle of private jets, yachts, nine homes and star-studded dinner parties. "I'm glad I can move on with my life now," said Horvath of Birmingham. "I just was hoping that I'd get what I feel was agreed to and due me. I believe what I have received is justice." Horvath, 42, sued Hubner, 69, for breach of contract, saying he promised to provide her a lifetime of easy living even after their relationship of 17 years ended. It was up to the jury of eight to decide if the couple had an agreement, and if she was entitled to part of Hubner's wealth. Horvath asked for $27 million to $161 million. Hubner remained expressionless throughout the trial and received the jury's verdict in the same way. "You can imagine my response to this," he said before leaving the courthouse. Hubner, with homes in Bloomfield Hills and around the country, is the owner of the Fitness USA chain and other businesses. Hubner's attorney, William Hampton, said he was disappointed and might appeal. The jury deliberated for four hours Friday before reaching a decision. Jurors cited in particular a May 30, 2001, entry in Horvath's day planner and a letter she wrote to Hubner in July of that year as proof that the couple agreed to a settlement after their breakup. "What little hard evidence there was was enough," said juror Loretta Mercer. "It was definite we were going to award her something. It was the way we were going to come about the award that was in question." Witnesses for Hubner testified that Horvath "wanted sex every day." When Hubner failed to comply, she began flirting with other men, witnesses said. Horvath friends testified that Hubner boasted about his casino winnings and having set aside millions in a safe deposit box for her retirement. Horvath told jurors that her former lover was abusive, often calling her "ignorant and untrainable." Hubner testified that he never once told Horvath he loved her. But he was generous, sharing his luxurious life with her and giving her at least $118,000 worth of jewelry. Norman Lippitt and David Mendelson, lead attorneys for Horvath, called the jury's verdict a just decision that will help their client regain her dignity. Horvath was 22 and a University of Michigan senior when the pair began dating. Hubner was 49 and a twice-divorced multimillionaire. From the start, Hubner said he would never remarry. But Horvath pressed him on the issue. She said she loved him and admitted she wanted to secure her financial future. But Hubner did not relent. Instead he told her not to worry and assured her he would provide for her. In the end, Horvath stood by herself in a near-empty courtroom, digesting her victory and wiping away the tears, when it occurred to her something was missing. "What happened to my car? They forgot about my car. It was on the list," she said about Hubner's Lexus GS400, the one she wanted to call her own. -------------------------------------------------------------------- In other words.....a half million dollar a year hooker. No to shabby of an income for making love to an old guy, eh? lol T |
