Default Night terrors/nightmares in 11yo girl

My 11.5 daughter had night terrors as a 4-5-6 year old. She'd start
screaming 2 or 3 hours after going to bed, seem to be awake but be babbling
as if dreaming and it would take some time to wake her properly and calm
her. And then she'd remember nothing of the episode in the morning. All
classic stuff.

About 6 months ago, just before she turned 11 she had what seemed like an
old style night terror, the only difference being that she was awake and
aware of us but she couldn't seem to remove herself from the dream until
she'd been awake for a good hour. She could describe the dream and her
pronounced feelings of dread while in that half-state and she kept slipping
back into the terror. I don't know whether what she had was actually a
nightmare rather than a night terror but it went way past a 'normal' bad
dream. A week ago she had another and it recurred several hours later. She
did remember these episodes in the morning and was distressed about them.

DD is healthy, happy and doing well at school, her activities and at home.
We suspect it has something to do with her age - though at this stage she's
visibly at only the beginning stages of the physical changes of puberty.

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced nightmares like this in their
children? Or even in themselves? We're hoping they won't increase in
frequency but I'm looking for ideas on how to comfort and reassure her,
particularly the next day.
