Default help -- cold sores

Poppin has herpetic looking ulcers on the inside and outside of lower lip.
I had a cold sore outbreak a bit ago, and did not avoid kissing him b/c I
was in denial for the first few weeks (I thought it was a pimple and
irritation from blowing nose into tissue paper).

Has been nursing both breasts. I noticed something on the lip 2 days ago.
I thought he bumped it in a fall. Yesterday it ulcered. Dr. confirmed
looked herpetic, but says who the heck knows. However, since I had cold
sores recently it seems highly likely to be cold sores.

Both children still nursing.

I don't want a breast outbreak to be the end of our breastfeeding
relationship. I am scared of getting sores on my nipples. I'm pretty
scared of nursing if I get them. My oldest daughter is irritating enough to
nurse on unblemished breasts.

Help.

Did the Dr. test it? When I was tandem nursing and pregnant, my older
nursling developed a sores which worried me. When I went in, the nurse
told me that many different viruses can cause mouth sores that look
herpetic. They tested it and later called to say it was not herpes.
It may be that they only bothered to test it because I was pregnant.
Though it is possible for a nursing toddler to pass herpes on to his
mom, it doesn't happen very much.

Good Luck,
Betsy

No, it just seems likely because I had an outbreak and am always loving on
him.
