ADHD Drug Abused By College Students To Study, Party

"At first it made me feel jittery," says Kelly, who has asked us not to use
her real name. Kelly is in her 20s. She is a college graduate and a
businesswoman here on the First Coast. Kelly says she uses Adderall several
times a week. At first, she says it was to lose weight.

"I've lost 40 pounds in six months," says Kelly. But weight loss isn't the
only thing Adderall does for her. "Concentration, you wouldn't believe how
much I got accomplished at work."

Kelly doesn't have ADHD nor does she have a prescription for Adderall. She
says she doesn't need one. "I got it from a friend of a friend."

Finding the drug on college campuses is easy to do.

"So many people can get it from their doctor and then they sell it," says
Cameron Petrie, a sophomore at UNF.

Dr. Burnakis says those who use Adderall might as well be using another
amphetamine called meth, because Adderall causes the same affect on the
body.
