Hi --

Sesame Street videos are very entertaining and gentle for the tiny
crowd. They're also helpful if your toddler is learning English.
Nickelodeon puts out some nice videos for the toddler crowd, too, under
the "Nick Jr." brand.

I don't think full-length movies are suitable for toddlers. I've never
known a 2-year old to want to sit still that long. This will change,
though, by your child's 4th birthday ... but then, the list of good
things to watch will change, too.

I hope this helps,

I disagree. DS loved the Wiggles movies at 2yo. One was an animated one of
them in space and the other was the magician one. It was a full-length
feature film. His first movie he sat through was Monsters, Inc., at about
2yo. The animation must have been what got him. Didn't scare him at all.

I think it depends on the kid, and how much TV they've seen in general.
Ollie doesn't watch TV. When we rented "Finding Nemo," soon before his
second birthday, he loved it -- for about ten minutes a day.

I agree, but the statement that movies are not suitable for toddlers was
such a sweeping statement, I had to throw in my experience. FWIW, I don't
think Finding Nemo is a good movie for toddlers. It moves too slow and the
colors aren't vibrant. DS never had any interest in it. You have to have
something with lots of color and action. Monsters, Inc. is good.

At two years old, the girls liked Sesame Street Sing Yourself Silly and
anything Barney. My girls didn't really start sitting and watching a
full-length movie until they were 3-4 years old and it had to be fast moving
and some music thrown in. I found that 1/2 hour type videos worked well with
the girls.

I have an 18 month old. The videos which keep her attention the longest a

Maisy (her current favorite, but there's not a huge amount of talking in
them)
Sesame Street--my recommendation if you're trying to teach English
Wiggles
Blue's Clues

She also still loves Baby Einstein videos, but those have very little
talking.

Luke loved Shrek at 2yo :-). Hunter didn't even sit through cartoons at
2yo. All kids are different in how much TV they like to watch and I don't
think it has much to do with how much they are exposed to, at least it
didn't seem to make a difference in my two.

Hunter will watch a movie now but he hardly ever asks to watch TV. Luke
could watch TV all day long and is always turning the thing on.

My son LOVES finding nemo, and although he is not allowed much TV, he will
watch this one
through. I also think the colors are very vibrant.
Is this movie appropriate for a 2 year old? hmmm...I have to tell you we
always skip the "mother and eggs getting killed" scene and for a long time
skipped the "Bruce goes nuts" scene. For my two year old, Nemo always begins
with "first day of school!"
