Picky 6 year old eater
Hello everyone.
This is my first post to this news group. In fact, it's my first post to any newsgroup except for Microsoft's free news server. I am the non custodial father of a beautiful 6 year old girl. She is an only child. Her Mother and her Mothers sisters and all the girls in the family are really fat. My daughter is not fat. My daughter is a picky eater. She won't try any new foods and her diet consists of rice and beans, hotdogs, McDonald's cheese burgers, pizza and Macaroni and cheese. She won't drink any milk or eat meat, other than sliced cooked ham. I don't believe that she ever has had to eat at a dinner table. Anything she eats is only when she says she is hungry and that is about 6 times per day. She usually eats in front of a television, and then she never eats more than a few ounces of whatever she is eating. Her Mother is not forcing her to eat new foods and she says that nutritionists have stated that 6 small meals a day are better than 3 daily large meals. I have also heard that from top fashion models. My daughters Mother has cut back on all most all sugar intake. My child almost hates coke and Pepsi, preferring water and sugar free fruit punch with vitamin C. I have read a lot about this and I think it is a good thing. My question is, if I try to make her eat more normally, like a traditional 3 meals per day at prescribed times of the day, do I risk making my child become fat like her Mother is? My daughter won't eat any vegetables. NONE! Will I cause any psychological damage if I force her to at least try new foods before she can go out to play again? I am so confused as to what to do. Should I just ignore this and start to believe there is not any problem to worry about? I need your thoughts. Please help. Weekend Father, and part time parent, Dale San Juan, Puerto Rico.
