Delurk for a question
Hi everyone...I've been lurking here for 18 mths or so (anyone around that
long might remember a few posts I made when the National Post printed a letter of mine protesting a ridiculous bottle-feeding image). My DS is now 30 mths old and nurses 2-3 times daily weekdays (when I work) and 4-6 times daily weekends (when I don't). The issue with Toby's nursing is that he really clamps down *hard* a lot of the time. This hurts and the pain lingers for, sometimes, up to 15 minutes. I ask him to 'let go and do it the right way', but as soon as he's got a good latch going, bam! clamps down again (not with teeth, though; he understands the 'if you bite, no nursey' rule). Is there something I can teach him, or use on my nipples, that might help? It gets to the point some nights that I've just got to leave the room for a time to give myself time to heal before letting him nurse again. We're all (mommy, daddy and Toby, especially) not interested in weaning right now, so that won't be an option (that was my dr's solution). I've been tempted to try toothache gel to numb it so I won't feel it, but figured the stuff won't be good for his lips if it isn't good for his gums. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
