Default Is Methylphenidate addictive when used as prescribed?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/medicalsci...549073,00.html

This references an article discussing Nora Volkow's findings. By reading
the entire article, one finds:

"However, it was still not clear why a drug that has been administered
for more than 40 years was not producing an army of addicted
schoolchildren. Volkow and her team concluded that this was due to the
much slower process of oral ingestion. It takes around an hour for
Ritalin in pill form to raise dopamine levels in the brain. Smoked or
injected, cocaine does this in seconds."

Dr. Volkow clearly states that when taken as prescribed, methylphenidate
is not addictive.

"Conclusion: This study concurs with 11 previous studies in finding no
compelling evidence that stimulant treatment of children with
attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder leads to an increased risk for
substance experimentation, use, dependence, or abuse by adulthood."

That sure does not look like it is addictive. Eleven previous studies?
Hmm...that makes a dozen.

And, then, there is this chuck of bull****....written by a quack who is
selling something...he selectively takes the first article referenced
above, keeps the fear mongering bull****, and snips the important facts.

For an objective evaluation of the quality of this website:

http://www.quackometer.net/?url=http...2Fritalin.htm+

"This web site is using alternative medicine terms. It is full of
scientific jargon that is out of place and probably doesn't know the
meaning of any of the terms. It shows little or no critical thought and
so should be treated with caution!"

This site has a has a currently measurable quackery content of 5 Canards

(The Canard is the internationally recognised SI unit for Quackery.)

Hmmm...a quack site for sure.
