Default chipped tooth?!?

What is the standard response to a chipped baby tooth these days? My
not quite 1 year old bumped his mouth on the bathtub and chipped one of
his front upper teeth. It doesn't appear to be sharp, but it definitely
doesn't look as smooth as the one next to it. We plan to call the
dentist on Monday, but what should I expect?

When my son chipped a tooth the dentist asked us to come in to have a
look, but decided against doing anything. She said it wasn't rough
enough to justify any kind of smoothing and there was no other damage.
With permanent teeth there is a concern about nerve damage I guess.

They might smooth it gently with some kind of little abrasive tool. My daughter
had that done on a chipped tooth once. If you can touch it without hurting him,
it isn't into the nerve and the smoothing shouldn't hurt.
