Newborn Acne?? Scabs??
Hello,
Our 2 month old has had baby acne for the last 3 weeks. The acne has appeared to stop, but her forehead and scalp have turned into a scabby mess. I know baby acne is common, but I never about the scabby after-effect. Is that normal too? Thank you, - Adrian (New daddy) |

Newborn Acne?? Scabs??
Hi - I've never heard of infant acne causing scabs. Have you consulted with your ped to make SURE it's really just infant acne? It's worth a visit to make sure it's not a different sort of rash. --Beth Kevles http://web.mit.edu/kevles/www/nomilk.html -- a page for the milk-allergic Disclaimer: Nothing in this message should be construed as medical advice. Newborn Acne?? Scabs??

I've never heard of infant acne causing scabs. It does if you have a baby that likes to scratch the spots... ask me how I know this! It isn't cradle cap - his scalp is clear, and anyway he had a touch of cradle cap when he was born and it looks totally different. The scabs appeared on his cheeks and chin when he took the top off some of the spots. They heal up again very quickly, though, and fade away. Jac |

Newborn Acne?? Scabs??
My daughter had a really bad rash on her face that I attributed to baby
acne, but it kept getting a lot worse and then it got infected because she kept scratching it. She also had a bad case of cradle crap. My pediatrician recommended the following things: **Two prescriptions (one for the infected area and one to clear up the rash - worked within one day) **For her head, Gerber's cradle cap kit - a four step kit to treat cradle cap - worked within one day, but continue to use it almost every other bath) **Wash everything she has in Dreft **Wash everything we wear in All Free **No lotions or perfumes Hopefully, these things can help and good luck! **Wash everything she has in Dreft **Wash everything we wear in All Free Dreft isn't such a good choice for sensitive-skinned babies, though it's been marketed as such. It's really quite harsh and has fragrances. I'd just wash *everything* in the free & clear detergent. Oh, and breastmilk is great for clearing up skin - just dab a little on the affected areas. -- iphigenia www.tristyn.net "i have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. i do not think that they will sing to me." |

For a home remedy, you can soak the white patches in babyoil and then carefully remove them with a soft toothbrush or with your fingers. Although it looks nasty, it doesn't do any harm whatsoever, and often disappears by itself in a few months or so. -- -- I mommy to DS (14m) guardian of DH EDD 05-17-2004 War doesn't decide who's right - only who's left |
