It finally happened
I knew MIL was going to ask the question one of these days, but she finally
did on Sunday. "So, Melissa," she says on Sunday, "how long are you going to bf DD?" I laughed and told her that the proper answer was until she started college. Then I assured her that we were planning on weaning soon (soon being a very indeterminate word meaning one of these days). She's been icked out by it for a long time _and_ has told me numerous times that she didn't have enough milk and that's why she formula fed her three kids. Whatever, she got bad advice and didn't get the support she needed but at least she could support my mothering. OTOH, DH's answer to her was that DD still hasn't had a cold or serious illness other than one ear infection and DH is sure it's because of the bf'ing. By Thanksgiving, I'd been breastfeeding for 4 months. Step-MIL was making a comment about losing weight and I said that BF was great 'cause I've been eating like a pig. She said, Well, I don't know because NO ONE has nursed as long as you are nursing. So, when her own daughter came over, I asked her and she'd nursed her kids at least 6 months. My SIL has nursed 1 year for 2 kids and the other SIL 8 months. As of that time, I'd nursed the LEAST. But, since SMIL thinks we all hold our babies too much and don't do the right thing so they will sleep through the night, blah blah blah, she was just blinded by my nursing... I don't understand why it has to be a source of tension... -- Anita -- -- SUCCESS FOUR FLIGHTS THURSDAY MORNING ALL AGAINST TWENTY ONE MILE WIND STARTED FROM LEVEL WITH ENGINE POWER ALONE AVERAGE SPEED THROUGH AIR THIRTY ONE MILES LONGEST 57 SECONDS INFORM PRESS HOME CHRISTMAS. |
