Do they take State, Federal, and SS out of a person's paycheck who joins the
army?

Yes.

It is a child support related question as I understand they can only take
out approx. 50 per cent of our take home pay after deductions, So I am
wondering what the deductions would be? Many thanks!

Joining the military as a ploy to lower support is not a Good
Idea. The US military will deduct any support ordered by a court
before they give you your check.
