My 8 month old has recently started something new. I am usually on the
floor with her so I can hold her by the waist as she 'walks'. For the
past few days, whenever anyone else comes by or she is startled, she
whips around and grabs on to me, can't seem to get close enough etc.
This would be fine if she cried or was afraid but she always has a
smile on her face and doesn't so much as whimper. She even does it to
her father and she adores him... any ideas?

I don't know about with an 8 month old, but my 22 month old does it on
occaision as a game. Maybe she's just playing too.

8 months old is classic timing for separation anxiety. Maybe that's what's
going on? She needs the reassurance that you're *always* there. It's not
necessarily a case of her being afraid of the other person, etc. Maybe you
can Google it to see if this makes sense to you.
