why sore now?
What am I doing after 13 months of BF having sore breasts?
In the early hours of Thursday morning I went to hospital with my dodgy lungs (well couldn't really leave them at home!) and so wasn't there for DS early morning feed. Instead he had a small feed when DH brought him in mid-morning. They came back midafternoon so DS got his after lunch time snooze feed (albeit later and less than normal) and in the evening I managed to get a pump sent over from maternity so I could have a bit of a go, although precious little came out as these breasts only like to make milk for a baby not a machine. The next morning I sat in a very deep bath and hand expressed some milk (felt like Cleopatra!) and in the afternoon DS had a little snack from me. That evening (Friday) when I was back home, he latched on like a thing possessed! And since then I've noticed I feel tender after each feed even now on Monday evening. He might have been a little too voracious on Friday and grazed the skin a little. Plus the fact that you basically hadn't bfed for almost 48 hours meant that your nipples might have lost some of their more toughened outer layer. Think of it in terms of bfing a newborn again :-). You just need a little time to build up that layer again. Jean -- HOLLY: Nothing wrong with dog's milk. Full of goodness, full of vitamins, full of marrowbone jelly. Lasts longer than any other type of milk, dog's milk. LISTER: Why? HOLLY: No bugger'll drink it. Plus the advantage of dog's milk is when it goes off it takes exactly the same as when it's fresh. LISTER: Why didn't you tell me, Holly?! HOLLY: What, and spoil your tea? (Red Dwarf: Series 2, Episode 1) |
