I am at my wits end. Please help!
I second that trick!
"Jamie Clark" wrote in message news You can also tell if they are deep asleep or just cat-napping if you lift up an arm, and drop it back down. If it is tense or goes down slowly, then baby is not fully deeply asleep. If it lifts up without resistance, and flops back down, then baby is fully asleep. Hopefully all the arm flopping doesn't wake baby up.... Taylor was a pretty light sleeper, so she woke up instantly the moment I put her down, guaranteed, never failed. Like the oposite of those Baby Dolls that close their eyes when you lay them flat. What helped me was to hold her to me with a blanket wrapped around her until she fell asleep. When I went to lay her down, I made sure to lay her on the warm blanket, so the temperature change to the bassinet or crib wasn't as noticable. That's a good strategy for a newborn, but as she gets older you want to transition out of that slowly so that eventually you put her down awake and she can fall asleep on her own. You start out nursing them to sleep and cuddling until they're really out. After the newborn period, you can often nurse them to sleep and put them down immediately. Then, as they get older, they are less and less asleep naturally as they finish nursing, and if you just keep putting them down, one day you'll be putting them down awake and they'll still just fall asleep on their own. Obviously, this is easier with some babies than others, and it may not work for you, but it worked for all mine like a charm. Best wishes, Ericka |
