Nonprofit agency secures DCF deal for child welfare services in Broward
Nonprofit agency secures DCF deal for child welfare services in
Broward By Bill Hirschman South Florida Sun-Sentinel Posted February 8 2006 State officials' threat to drop a nonprofit agency that provides child welfare services to Broward County evaporated Tuesday with both sides agreeing to a new contract. The local Department of Children & Families office must still get the approval of its bosses in Tallahassee on two issues, including technology, in the deal with ChildNet Inc., but district administrator Jack Moss said, "We're in agreement." The two groups hope to sign a three-year $176 million contract Feb. 23. The private firm provides adoption, foster care and emergency shelter, among other services, to about 3,500 youngsters. ChildNet Inc. President Peter Balitsaris had balked at proposals described as "micromanaging," but Moss said the agency has a responsibility to oversee the "outsourcing" of the duties. Moss wrote ChildNet that a deal had to be reached soon or bids would be taken for a replacement. http:/http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/broward/sfl-cdcf08feb08,0,5871993.story?coll=sfla-news-broward Defend your civil liberties!
