Getting Married
"Becca" wrote in message
oups.com... Aside from the emotional issues, is there any legal issues that I need to worry about? How about property? Savings? Yes... let's say you are purchasing a home right now. After you marry you add your husband's name to the property, just like I did with my husband. If his ex has a fit and wants to cause problems (for whatever reason), they can go after the house and put a lien on it. It comes down to money and how far someone will go. TM, who posts in this group, has experienced all sorts of crap due to a greedy CP. Her husband pays child support, and meanwhile she gets to suffer emotionally, financially, and her financial future is at stake. "Legally" speaking, his ex-wife can't go after you - but by joining your finances together via marriage you are financially responsible. Thanks, Tracy ~~~~ http://www.hornschuch.net/tracy/ |

Whan a person has a child support order in the state of California and that person owns real estate, a lein is automatically put on the property, even if the person has always been current in their child support payments. It's done "just in case" the person stops making child support payments. Each time you refinance or sell the house, you need to get a statement from the C.S. agency that you do not owe any child support. It's one of those "treated like a criminal even though you aren't one" laws. http://www.smcdcss.com/titlecompanie...main=companies |
