TULSA, Okla. - Some foster kids have Reactive Attachment Disorder.
Some foster kids have disorder
http://www.fox23.com/mostpopular/sto...4-4f115925b52e (TULSA, Okla.) March 18 - A judge is deciding whether a lawsuit against DHS can be filed as a class action lawsuit. If so, it will include all 10,000 foster care children in the state. Now, four moms who have adopted some of these children are trying to help other parents out there. These moms are forming a support group. More than half of the foster children in Oklahoma bounce from foster home to foster home at least four times. Moms we talked to say, not only is that hard on the kids, but they believe it also causes a brain disorder that can tear families apart. These four moms found each other out of sheer desperation. They all adopted children who have the same problem. One Tina Cox never saw coming. “When we met her, she dazzled us, she was bubbly and cute, melted our hearts.” But within the first month, her 3-year-old daughter started acting strangely. “There was urinating on the floors, some issues with feces, lying, crazy lying, hoarding food.” The caseworker told her all her daughter needed was a lot of love. “We loved her, still love her very much, but that didn't make it fine.” Turns out, these moms adopted children who all have a brain disorder called Reactive Attachment Disorder. “They don't trust, they won't trust. They will do anything to be in control even to their own detriment, the more you try to love them the more threatened they feel”, Tina said. These moms blame the DHS foster care system. “She did get bounced around, she was in foster care for 18 months and in that time she had 5 placements.” And during that time, Tina says her daughter's brain developed differently than most kids, because of the trauma. “They use the back part of the brain, they're in a flight or fight mode, which they're disconnected from the emotional part.” As the kids get older, without the right intervention, they get worse. At age 10, Tina's daughter put her family in danger. “She decided to experiment with putting kitchen chemicals in our drinks. She put Drano in our son's Gatorade, she made multiple threats to stab me in the heart and kill me.” At that point, Tina had to put her daughter in a group home. “I have to accept being mother from a distance at this point.” With the hope that she'll get the kind of help she needs, so she can come home. Until then, Tina relies on the other moms for strength. These moms say when you're dealing with kids with Reactive Attachment Disorder, traditional therapy and traditional parenting techniques do not work. That's why they're starting a local support group to help other parents. The first one is Monday night at the Promenade Mall's food court at 7:00 p.m. The moms are working with the director of DHS to diagnose these kids early, so adoptive parents will know what they're dealing with and can get them help. If you want to see the symptoms of Reactive Attachment Disorder or learn more about the support group, click on links and reminders. CURRENTLY CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES VIOLATES MORE CONSTITUTIONALLY GUARANTEED LIBERTIES & CIVIL RIGHTS ON A DAILY BASIS THEN ALL OTHER AGENCIES COMBINED INCLUDING THE NATIONAL SECURITY AGENCY/CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY WIRETAPPING PROGRAMS.... CPS Does not protect children... It is sickening how many children are subject to abuse, neglect and even killed at the hands of Child Protective Services. every parent should read the free handbook from connecticut dcf watch.. http://www.connecticutdcfwatch.com Number of Cases per 100,000 children in the US These numbers come from The National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect in Washington. (NCCAN) Recent numbers have increased significantly for CPS *Perpetrators of Maltreatment* Physical Abuse CPS/Foster care 160, biological Parents 59 Sexual Abuse CPS/Foster care 112, biological Parents 13 Neglect CPS/Foster care 410, biological Parents 241 Medical Neglect CPS/Foster care 14 biological Parents 12 Fatalities CPS/Foster care 6.4, biological Parents 1.5 Imagine that, 6.4 children die at the hands of the very agencies that are supposed to protect them and only 1.5 at the hands of parents per 100,000 children. CPS perpetrates more abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse and kills more children then parents in the United States. If the citizens of this country hold CPS to the same standards that they hold parents too. No judge should ever put another child in the hands of ANY government agency because CPS nationwide is guilty of more harm and death than any human being combined. CPS nationwide is guilty of more human rights violations and deaths of children then the homes from which they were removed. When are the judges going to wake up and see that they are sending children to their death and a life of abuse when children are removed from safe homes based on the mere opinion of a bunch of social workers. CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES, HAPPILY DESTROYING THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT FAMILIES YEARLY NATIONWIDE AND COMING TO YOU'RE HOME SOON... BE SURE TO FIND OUT WHERE YOUR CANDIDATES STANDS ON THE ISSUE OF REFORMING OR ABOLISHING CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES ("MAKE YOUR CANDIDATES TAKE A STAND ON THIS ISSUE.") THEN REMEMBER TO VOTE ACCORDINGLY IF THEY ARE "FAMILY UNFRIENDLY" IN THE NEXT ELECTION... |

"They use the back part of the brain, they're in a flight or fight mode, which they're disconnected from the emotional part." There is NO definite brain science to back up these statements. None. The point is that if you lay it off to the brain, you don't have to look anywhere else for a way to help fix it, such as how adults interact w.kids, how learning and living environments are set up and managed. These are common behaviors across many cases. There are tons of whacko therapists who suggest making kids beg for food and water, holding them against their wills, and more crazy **** to "break down the child's walls and make them look to the new parent as THE source for love, safety, etc." These techniques are abuse, plain and simple. |

None. *The point is that if you lay it off to the brain, you don't have to look anywhere else for a way to help fix it, such as how adults interact w.kids, how learning and living environments are set up and managed. I saw a foster/adopter once in a library talking with the librarian about a RAD kid, right in front of the kid, and I got some wierd vibes from the way she presented it. 1. Came across as comparable to a person talking about their dog. 2. Presentation made Foster "special" and the center of attention. Despite all of this, Reactive Attachment Disorder is not a complete mystery, particularly where a child is moved through 5 different foster homes. CPS has never used the "First, Do no harm." motto. To quote a prosecutor "This is what we do." To quote a caseworker "I'm just doing my job." ( "Arbeit Macht Frei", "I was just following orders!" ) Right, SRplus? |
