Taste of what it's like to have a large family
My in-laws have come to visit, and I was walking around the Pike Place
Market with my kids and a collection of their cousins. A shopkeeper asked me, "are all of those yours?" I nodded, and answered, "yes, Spencer here is the oldest, at 13, and Alicia here is the youngest at 7." "Wow, you must be one busy lady." "Yeah, it gets pretty crazy around here sometimes." :-) All seven of them are over at our house, having spent the night in a big slumber party -- their parents spent the night at their hotel. It sounds like I have a tribe of shrieking crazies in our basement. Taste of what it's like to have a large family
Ha! Sounds like fun. I have 3 girls and my last serious relationship had 3
girls also whose ages fell right in-between mine. I enjoyed being a family of 6 kids but boy was it hard! That was wonderful of you letting the folks have the hotel, some quiet alone adult time never happens enough. Enjoy the slumber party! -- As Always, Anji :-) All seven of them are over at our house, having spent the night in a big slumber party -- their parents spent the night at their hotel. Taste of what it's like to have a large family
On our just-completed vacation, we took our 2 (DD age 10, DS age 7)
and the kids of our friends (DD age 9, DD age 4, DS age 1) out to a restaurant. It was strange asking for a table for 7, 2 adults and 5 children, and we got some very odd looks, as all the kids look like they could be related. Henry is an only child, and we have developed strong friendships with two other families who have only children (one is a mkm'er -- hi Pam!). We vacation together and often go out to eat together. While it's clear we're 3 families with three children, it is fun to watch the wait staff try to figure out who goes with which parents. All 6 parents are white. Henry, who is adopted, is black. Another of the children is also adopted and is Asian. So we have 6 white adults, one black kid, one Asian kid and one white kid. It's nearly impossible for them to get straight! I remember one time we were caravaning to go miniature golfing, one couple with all 3 kids and me in a van, and the other 3 adults following in a car. The 3 adults had car trouble and we didn't notice. When we walked into the crowded mini-golf place, a staffer walked right up to us and said, "Your other party had car trouble and will be here in about 30 minutes." At first I was confused how they knew it was us. Later I learned that the person who called ahead with the message assured the staffer, "They'll be easy to spot..." and then described us. :-) -Dawn Mom to Henry, 10 |
