lol well I don't mind as long as it's fine, but this kid wants to be out
hail, rain, sleet and snow, she's obsessed with being outside, even when
she's obviously shivering from cold she still begs to go out.

I think G. just doesn't like being cooped up in the house.
She just wants to be anywhere but here--outside, on errands,
visiting, whatever.

She wants to play soccer with the boys.

Aww how cute, Lydia's a flora and fauna girl, wants to pick all the
flowers, pull leaves from trees, examine rocks and stuff, and the odd
rabbit or chicken walking is quite a fun distraction too.

G. loves to chase animals (they're not so fond of it,
though ;-) She's impossible to walk with since she has to
stop and investigate *everything*. That's great when we're
just ambling about, but a pain if we're actually trying to
get somewhere! It can take us a half hour to walk the
20 feet to my parents' house ;-)

Best wishes,
Ericka

At about 7 months, Kay demonstrated her upward mobility the last night we
tried CIO. After 90 minutes, I went in and saw that she was standing up in
her crib and couldn't figure out how to get down.

We're not ever doing that again.

Now she's trying to stand everywhere, and her forehead has about four
little bumps where she has crawled into something headfirst, maybe
repeatedly.

Is it possible to stop accidents like this? Our daughter hurt herself at
least once or twice a day from 7 months until at least 10 months. You can't
prevent them from being monkeys in their crib. My daughter was jumping up
and down in her crib one time, hit her chin off the rail and bit her tongue
in the process. I think I was more upset then her!

My brother did the exact same thing as a child. Scared the bejesus out
of the baby sitter. Lots of blood!

Morgan turned 7 months yesterday. Today she had her first "I'm trying to
stand up, look at me...oops I fell" accident.

She tries to stand in bed, in her crib, in her playpen and keeps falling
down.

Her arm slipped through the slat of the crib and her face hit the side. How
do you prevent injuries like this? If she had not stopped herself from
falling over onto her back, she could have broken her arm.

What am I missing here???

I don't think you are missing anything. A few bumps and bruises are
normal. They'll learn, and are tougher than we think!

You have described my 2 year old granson to a tee! He'd keep your
Nolan good company. As soon as he wakes up in the morning he is at
the front door still in his pjs with his shoes in hand...and it is
very difficult to get him to budge! He'd much rather be outside than
having breakfast! LOL...C.

That's Lydias big I-want-to-go-out hint too, she brings you her shoes
and won't leave you alone until you put them on her, but if you do put
them on her she thinks this is a signal your going to let her out to
play and if you don't follow through watch out, tears and foot stomping
abound.

Sounds like Nolan and Lydia are peas in a Pod, they are the same age
too. Imagine what fun a playdate with Nolan, Lydia, Genevieve and
Madeline would be, none of us would get to sit down for a second ;-)

Ain't that the truth! We could just take them all outside
and watch them eat dirt ;-)

My kid must be weird. She had older kids (my roommate's children) to run and
get things for her and keep her entertained, so just didn't bother crawling
until we moved, at which point she didn't miss a beat and went from watching
the world go by to crawling everywhere in what seemed like a few minutes, at
age 10 months old.

Walking was the same way. She waited until 16 months to walk, but never went
through that "robot walk until you bump into something and sit down"
phase--in fact, I don't remember her *ever* falling on her butt
accidentally. She was running full tilt the day after she first started
walking. Learning to walk was literally instantaneous. One minute she was
crawling, the next, standing and walking, like, "Oh, is that why you do it?"
No laborious first steps, no teetering, just from crawling to walking, boom.
