Default Huge Spotting (kinda graphic)

A few weeks ago, we found out that I am pregnant again (have one baby aged
nine months) Last Saturday and then on Monday, I spotted a little as I did
with the first one. Went to the doctor and went for a fetal life ultra
sound. That night, there was a huge amount of blood and a balloon like
object (looked like a deflated balloon) also passed. I won't go into the
insanity that was the trip to the ER... lets just say it was a wasted trip
because they told us nothing in the end... another fetal life ultra sound
today has the heart beating and the little guy swimming around like crazy (I
am at about nine weeks) Has anyone else had this? I was sure it was a
miscarriage... no cramping mind you but still...

Was the deflated balloon like thingy blood colored, or different, like
whitish? If it was blood colored, then it sounds like it was a blood clot.
Scary, but apparently in your case, harmless.

Hugs. I know lots of people who have had bleeding and passing of large
enough clots that they were SURE that they had miscarried, only to find out
soon after that all was still well, and gone on to have healthy babies from
those pregnancies. I hope you are going to have that same happy ending,
too!

Sorry for jumping on this thread ... but that's really heartening to hear
that Jamie,
A friend of mine has had repeated *heavy* bleeding with her current pg, but
all is still OK at 25 weeks ... she's had heavy bleeding so many times now
that each time she was sure she'd m/c. Apparently placenta previa with
other complications, but her little baby girl is still holding her own.
Her Ob expects her to go into labour by 30 weeks, and she'll need a
c-section and probably a hysterectomy at the same time.

It was blood coloured. Thanks for the hugs. I really need them lately. The
whole production was insane... no one seemed to care that we were sure we'd
lost the baby and it's difficult to get ****y with the nurses and doctors or
technicians because they could just shuffle you down to the bottom of the
pile.

I'm not sure that they don't care, it's just that there is nothing they can
do if you had lost the baby, or were in the process of losing the baby.
Doctors tend to be very cut and dried, and don't always have the best beside
manner, especially in the ER. AS far as they were concerned, your life
wasn't in danger, so they needed to move on to other more urgent cases.

Sending more hugs your way. I really hope that this is the end of your
bleeding episodes, or you find out something like a partial previa, which
would explain them. Hugs,

Jamie

how awful, however if it is just placenta previa that is the problem, I
think there may be hope, clearly she's going to need a c-section and yes,
there is a risk of it being early, but whilst hysterectomy is a much higher
risk with placenta previa, I don't think it's particularly huge either,
unless there is further complications such as placenta accreta or percreta.
For you friend, I hope she trusts this OB, that in theatre s/he will do
everything possible to save her uterus, and if she doesn't trust that then
to find another one, you might find this
http://www.birthdiaries.com/diary/birth062/ interesting, ok, so not the same
bleeding issues earlier on, but a pretty frank discussion of the risks and
the OB admitting he was not comfortable and passing the case on, with a
complex and risky case you want the best, even if you have to fight for it.
There are multiple techniques before resorting to hysterectomy and all OBs
are proficient at all of them.

(((hugs))) to your friend

Anne

good luck.

Thanks Anne,
She has a fabulous Dr though and there is more going on the placenta previa
as well ... I'm not sure of the exact details though.
Thanks for your kind thoughts - I'll pass them on

It's apparently really common to bleed around the time your second period is
due. It happened to me and was pretty unnerving but I also know a lot of
other people it has happened to. The balloon like object sounds weird
though and makes me wonder whether it was a twin though I would have thought
you would have had cramping with that.
