Nuchal U/S done today and 2nd OB visit (old m/c ment)
Well we went in for our genetic counseling (mainly to see the pros/cons of
testing like amnio) and then the nuchal U/S. The gentic counselor was really nice and only thing that came up was my age at delivery. She explained why they (the insurance really) consider 35 to be the magic cutoff for amnio testing. The doctor said the nuchal scan looked very normal. They did a finger stick and I have to wait about a week for the results. That plus the nuchal measurement will give us a revised risk of having a baby with Down's. He did see a big fibroid high in/on the uterus. It's away from the baby but about the size of a baseball. This upset me a bit but he says it's not something to be too concerned about. I am supposed to go back in at 6 weeks if I decide I don't think I am doing the amnio or in 4 weeks if I want to do the amnio. He'll check the fibroid again then. I got one decent pic and one pic that I have no real clue about what is on the pic of the U/S. We also got a video of the U/S that is about one minute long and shows the little wiggler moving around :-). Then we went in to my OB group for the second visit. My group has five docs and you rotate through them all. The doc I was supposed to see had to go for a delivery. They gave us the option of seeing the nurse practitioner or waiting (I am sure for quite a while) to see the doc I had the appt with. As DH is working midnights right now and was feeling a bit tired, I saw the NP. I saw her after my m/c in Nov and I really liked her. She tried to find the heartbeat via Doppler (? - the little handheld device) but couldn't. Since it's kind of early and we had just seen it on the U/S downstairs about an hour prior, I didn't panic although it would have been nice. She said it should be no problem getting it on Doppler next time. Bloodwork from last time came back fine. So I'm back to them in a month and back to the specialist in 4-6 weeks depending on what we decide to do about the amnio. Is it possible to start feeling movement at 12.5 weeks? IIRC, I started feeling movement with DS about 17 weeks or so (of course it's been 5 yrs so my memory is a little spotty). I swear I have felt little flutters a few times over the past few days. I know I have read that sometimes 2nd time moms feel them earlier but overweight women (which unfortunately I am now) have a harder time feeling them. Anyone care to share their experience/wisdom? Thanks :-) -- JennL DS 06/26/98 1 tiny angel 11/03 EDD December 4 2004 aka CatnipSlayer @ livin-it-up.net -- Leader of the Cult of Worshippers of BiPolar Long-Haired Sexy Anime Guys with Swords |

I've also felt some babies really late for subsequents, around 20plus weeks, but they had anterior placentas. Andrea |

I am overweight and felt my DD move at 12 weeks even though everyone told me
that's impossible, I *know* that's what it was... "ModernMiko" wrote in message ... I felt DD move at 14 weeks, but didn't realise that it wasn't gas until she kicked the wand out of the way at the 18 week u/s ... so feeling and seeing made me rethink my "gas". Once you've felt those specific flutters you *know* what they are when you feel them again BTW ... this pg weight has certainly pushed me into "overweight" territory *and* I have an anterior placenta, but I can sure feel the bean kicking me OK Amanda -- DD 15th August 2002 1 tiny angel Nov 2003 EDD 19th August 2004 |

who it was though, I think it was my second. Lol - I forget who with lots of things. I've also felt some babies really late for subsequents, around 20plus weeks, but they had anterior placentas. Andrea I felt #2 later than #1 cos I was so busy that I didn't have time to sit and feel it honestly. |

And yes, it is possible to start feeling movement a lot earlier the second time around. You know what it feels like now, so you won't mistake it for gas or other things. FWIW, with DS I felt movement around 14w, and I was considered on the edge of overweight at the time (yes, now I'm surely over that edge and on the wrong side of it). It also depends on many other factors beside your weight, so enjoy! -- -- I mommy to DS (July '02) mommy to three tiny angels (28 Oct'03, 17 Feb'04 & 20 May'04) guardian of DH (33) |

I suppose that I should include it on my sig list but it was very early on and that's just a difficult time for me to remember. We were lucky enough to conceive DS 3 months later. We were offered the counseling and figured it would be a good idea to cover all of the bases and to be well-informed about the amnio, etc. I am pretty sure I have felt the baby at least a couple of times already. -- JennL DS 06/26/98 1 tiny angel 11/03 EDD December 4 2004 aka CatnipSlayer @ livin-it-up.net -- Leader of the Cult of Worshippers of BiPolar Long-Haired Sexy Anime Guys with Swords |
