Default Sore nipples (A real post... ^.^)

Okay.. Alena's latch is perfect. No biting, but she does clamp down
sometimes.
Now my nipples feel like they've been partially ripped off.
They're really sore and anything touching them hurts!!!
What should I do?

Could be vasospasm. Mine hurt like hell.
I ended up using nipple shields because I couldn't take the pain, but I
*really* don't advise them becuase I am STILL using them at 13+ months.
Try pinching behind the nipple and rolling.
"practice" pushing the blood into the tip of your finger like you would
to see if the stapler accident drew blood ;-)
Same idea. You're trying to push blood back into constricted
capillaries. The nipple should turn red, like your fingertip does.

Warm compresses might help too.

Supposedly it will go away as your nipples get used to being in service.
Mine did, tho as I said, I broke down and used the shields. :-(
Were your nipples super sensitive when you were preg too? I found that
getting the least bit chilly (nipply!) when I was pg was VERY painful
and lasted for AGES.

Its a bit like Renaud's Syndrome of the nipples.

(assuming this is what you have, and the standard disclaimers apply if
you are lurking and bristly about mkb posters making suggestions.... ;-)

Dawn, who WOULD play an MD, but nobody's asked me. :-P''''

I think I have this too. My nipples have been uncomfortable for years
actually when bf or pg or neither, and I notice when I get cold or
right after nursing or pumping that my nipples get white.

Anyway the way I deal with it that keeps it manageable rather than
super painful is I wear a bra that has some stretch to it so that it
presses against the nipple rather than rubbing against the nipple.
That seems to make a huge difference for me. For me it mostly doesn't
hurt when I am nursing; I think because my baby has a great latch, so
gets completely past the nipple. My nipples do hurt if things touch
them though.
