Default car seats and pet/guard cargo barrier in suabru outback wagon

Hi all,
My wife and I recently purchased a 2001 Subaru Outback
wagon. We have
a dog and want to purchase the Subaru factory model pet
barrier/divider for the rear cargo portion of the wagon. We
have been
advised that this model is the best shape and will fit the
best for
our wagon. However I have heard that if you have a pet
barrier/divider
you cannot use the upper LATCH anchors for child car seats.
Since we
are expecting our first child soon, this incompatability is
a concern.
I know that most infant seats only use the lower LATCH
anchors, but
toddler seats can use upper and lower. Is this claim true?
The subaru
rep told me that to install the pet barrier you may have to
remove 1
or all upper anchors? is this true? I am looking for advice
from
people that may have installed the pet barrier/divider in
their
outback and that may or may not have a child seat in the
back that
uses upper anchors.
Thanks,
M

M,

I haven't used the cargo barrier. However, looking at Subaru's website, if
you go to Outback and look under accessories, and then dog guard divider
-- it says right there "not for use with child safety seats requiring
tether straps." So, clearly, you are not supposed to use it with a seat
that has a tether. It's probably a better idea not to use this type of
barrier UNLESS you are able to cut a window in it for the tether to go
through to reach the anchor. Otherwise the tether would be compressed
between the barrier and the top of the car and subject to weird types of
stresses.
