Default ? about pumping at work

Hi all,

I return to work on Friday(Boo hoo). DS will be 20 weeks old and Bf is
going great--got off to a rough start though. I want to pump at work so DS
doesn't have to have any formula and so my supply won't dwindle. He only
eats from one breast at a feeding now so is it safe to assume that I will
only pump from one breast at a session? I have also wondered if I should
pump from both breasts each session to try and be sure my supply stays up.
Any suggestions would be great.

Also curious. . . I think I have read that your supply goes down if you are
pregnant--is that right?

Thanks, Robin

It's almost always harder to maintain supply with a pump compared to a
baby, so double pumping is definitely the way to go. I also get much
better let-downs doublepumping compared to single. Which pump do you
have?

I've got the Ameda Purely Yours. It works well but I haven't tried double
pumping. I think I'll try it before I go back to work. Thanks for the
input.

I second this. No pump is as efficient as a baby, so you'll put the odds in
your favor if you double pump.

That being said, I went back to work and pumped for my DS and he never had
any formula, ever. So, here's your cheer: You can do it! You can do it!

That's good to hear. DS definitely prefers nursing to the bottle so I hope
he drinks enough to get by when with my sister(daycare provider) but nurses
like crazy when I get him. I've altered my work hours(4 am to 12:30 pm) but
he still nurses two times(comfort or feeding--I'm not sure) between 4 am and
8 am. Hopefully he will adapt and eat more between bedtime and 3 am.

Thanks for the support,

Robin

Wow, Lara, nearly a year you've been doing this. I am always amazed by
long-time EP-ing moms. Here's a virtual pat on the back. And, Happy
Birthday to Luke! What are your plans for continuing/stopping? Just
curious.

Take care,

Thanks. Continuing at this stage - I get 650-700 ml on two (long)
Symphony sessions a day, so why stop? We'd like to delay WCM for as long
as possible.

Thanks, I will double pump. I tried it for the first time last night and it
went well!

Thanks for the suggestions,

Robin
