ANOTHER PERVERT FOSTIE charged with raping children Patricia Harris in Danville Kentucky
Were these kids removed from their biological
parents because of a "risk of neglect"? Were they part of the 1/3 of removals where the CWLA said they only needed better housing? Were they removed because their mom smoked a doobie? http://www.kentucky.com/471/story/152844.html Photo of Patricia Harris, Danville Kentucky http://www.amnews.com/public_html/ph...n-120x120.jpeg http://www.amnews.com/public_html/ph...n-280x400.jpeg http://www.amnews.com/public_html/?m...61&format=html Friday August 17, 2007 Adoptive parent jailed on child abuse charges in Danville By BOBBIE CURD A Danville woman who adopted three foster children the state had placed in her care has been charged with sexually and physically abusing them in her home for more than a year. A Danville police detective said if Patricia Anne Harris, 54, of 629 Apache Trail, is indicted, it will be a difficult case for jurors to hear. Harris was arrested July 16 after an investigation concluded there was enough evidence to charge her with two counts of first-degree sodomy, nine counts of criminal abuse and one count of first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. The charges involve three sisters, ages 5, 6 and 8. A preliminary hearing was held Aug. 1 for Harris, who has pleaded not guilty, and her case was referred to a Boyle County grand jury. According to the circuit clerk's office, a public defender will be assigned to Harris' case. Harris, whose prior record is limited to shoplifting, is being held in the Boyle County Detention Center on a $750,000 cash bond. Her case is due to be presented to a grand jury on Sept. 24. She declined a request for an interview today, according to the jail. Served as foster parent The girls were brought into Harris' home under the foster parent program before she adopted them in April of last year. She served as their foster parent for an unknown period of time. No case worker could be reached with the Department of Community Based Services, a division of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services in Danville. All three girls were removed from the home on June 28, according to Detective A. J. Mullins, due to issues that had been reported through the school system. "I believe for some time there had been bruising and what not, but they were always explained," said Mullins, who was notified of the case through social services early in July. "Usually, social services will make the first contact with us," Mullins said. "If they suspect any kind of criminal abuse, they remove the children, then we're brought in to investigate." The 5-year-old disclosed to a social worker in July that Harris, known as "Momma Anne," had sexually abused her, according to the arrest warrant. The allegations as detailed on the arrest warrant are graphic and disturbing. "This is a very hard case to work on, especially when you have kids at home of your own," Mullins said. Disturbing allegations Court records show that the girls accuse Harris of biting their tongues, fingers and lip area, hitting them in the face, causing bruising, and throwing and pushing them down a staircase. Harris allegedly threw the 6-year-old into a bathtub, causing bruising on her arms and legs, and bending the child's fingers backward, breaking them. The 5-year-old, according to the arrest warrant, is in physical therapy with fingers that were allegedly broken by Harris and left untreated. Harris also allegedly made the three girls squat while putting their hands on the top of their heads and holding the position for a certain period of time, then punishing them if they could not do so by forcing them to stand facing the wall. Court records allege that Harris would place her foot on the children's chest or neck area and hold them to the floor, making breathing difficult. She also allegedly choked the girls by holding their throats while she pushed them up against a wall. Mixed reactions Mullins said family and friends of Harris had mixed reactions when they were questioned about the charges against her. "Some were shocked and amazed, saying they couldn't believe it. Others that had witnessed it finally came forward, saying they knew something was wrong but weren't sure what was going on," Mullins said. Mullins said some who knew Harris admitted they advised her not to adopt the children, who already had been in another home before Harris'. According to court records, the girls told Mullins they were scared of Harris and do not want to return to the home. They said "Momma Anne" told them to lie about their injuries to doctors and social workers, such as saying they fell off a bike or a swing. "These girls are adorable, too. As a mother, I wanted to take them home and take care of them," Mullins said. Mullins said she spoke to the children during the investigation. "We try and work together (with social services) as much as possible so we don't have to put the kids through so much," Mullins said. On Aug 18, 5:41 am, Jane Fondle wrote: CPS is a perverts dream. Patricia Harris, 54, faces two counts of first-degree sodomy, nine counts of criminal abuse and one count of first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. Harris adopted the girls, ages 5, 6, and 8 in April 2006 after serving as the sisters' foster parent. The girls, who were taken from Harris' custody on June 28, accuse the woman they called "Momma Anne" of a variety of abuses. The 5-year-old told investigators she was sexually abused by Harris, who also is accused of hitting the girls and pushing them down the stairs. Harris allegedly threw the 6-year-old into a bathtub and injuring the fingers of two of the girls by bending them backward until they broke. The girls said Harris then prevented the girls from seeking treatment for the injuries. Police said they aren't sure when the abuse began, but suspect it had been going on for some time. "There had been bruising and what not, but they were always explained," said Danville Police Det. A.J. Mullins. Court records allege Harris would punish the girls by making them squat while putting their hands on top of their heads and holding the position for a certain time. She also allegedly choked the girls by holding their throats while she pushed them against a wall. Harris, who has a shoplifting charge on her record, is being held in the Boyle County Detention Center on $750,000 cash bond. Her case will be presented to the Boyle County grand jury on Sept. 24. |
