Saying that a recent rape of an 8-year-old child in Dade County foster
care and the disappearance of a Pinellas County foster care child were
“preventable,” Democrats in the state House and Senate called Thursday
on Republican leaders to form a joint committee to study “systemic
problems and challenges” in the state Department of Children and Family.

“I know some will say that the agencies are doing their own
investigations,” Sen. Nan Rich, D-Weston, said in a letter to Senate
President Ken Pruitt, R-Port St. Lucie. “That is all well and good; but
when children die or are raped in the custody of the state, we the
legislature have our own responsibility to figure out how to make the
system better and how to make children safer.”

House Democratic Leader Dan Gelber of Miami Beach made a similar request
to House Speaker Marco Rubio, R-West Miami.

“Its overriding aim,” Gelber said of the proposed committee, “should be
to address systemic and institutional concerns and challenges in both
DCF and the private vendor network we are relying on.”

CPS Does not protect children...
It is sickening how many children are subject to abuse, neglect and even
killed at the hands of Child Protective Services.

every parent should read this .pdf from
