State diverts $4 million from tax refunds to child support
HARRISBURG, Pa. - State tax auditors withheld nearly $4 million in tax
refunds from people who owed child support payments, officials said Monday.

All told, about 19,900 income tax returns were filed this year by people who
were identified as owing $11 or more in child support, officials said.

The State Tax Refund Offset Program was established in 2001 and has diverted
nearly $21 million from almost 115,000 tax refunds for delinquent child
support payments.

To stop a state income tax refund from being taken, a parent must request an
administrative review from the local Domestic Relations Section.
