I know one mom who woke up in a panic one night and couldn't find her DD.

She shook her DH, who, half asleep mumbled at her that she should look
under the bed. Sure enough, the baby (then quite young, though I don't
recall exactly what age) had fallen off the bed and rolled off the pillow
placed there for the purpose and was snoozing quite happily underneath the
bed.

OMG, can you imagine if the bed decided to break precisely at that moment
the baby was under the bed.

?? That ever happen outside of the funny pages?

Weird. I've never heard of it happening to anyone real.
Can't personally imagine sleeping on something so rickety or
ill-constructed that it would collapse under normal use.

Im paranoid. My kids arent allowed under heavy objects,I've put stuff under
the bed when they were small, to make sure they couldnt get under there. Im
also afraid of babies crwling under chairs that are in use

The beds that they used to make oh about 15 years ago, perhaps before that,
the frames were made out of wood. They weren't rickty old beds when they
were used, but yes they got old and would give out. Since then though beds
have metal frames and they have long since switched. I haven't heard of any
beds breaking these days.

Well, perhaps surprisingly, *I* have slept in beds for more than 15
years. ;-)

I slept in the original bed I came out of my crib into, til I was
married. Never collapsed once. Maintenance is best done before
structural failure, I guess.

It happened to us several times, when dh and I first got together the bed
would fall during sex. Very hilarious actually. He finally fixed the thing
so it's fine now. It had never fallen before he came along.

I had a box-spring mattress collapse at some point after my God-daughter had
been jumping on the bed. I just noticed that the bed was suddenly
bowl-shaped.

Hi all,

For all of you cosleepers--how do/did you all deal with your little one
crawling in the bed? DS is 7 months old and cosleeps part of the night with
me--then part of the night with DH. I go to work in the middle of the night
so DH has him alone in bed for half of the night. We are both worried about
him crawling off of the bed and hurting himself. . . he is very fast and his
teething keeps him awake a lot of nights. We do barricade him with pillows
but just don't feel like that is enough. What do/did you all do when you
got to this stage in babies development?

Hunter wasn't much of a mover, he never fell off the edge. Luke
crawled well at 6 months. He fell off twice. One of those time I
caught him before he hit the floor. I just was aware of it and woke
up if they got close to the edge I guess.

I taught both of mine how to get down feet first as soon as they
could. I think Hunter was 11-12 months and Luke was 8-9 months. They
still fell a bit but feet first they landed on their butt and not
their head. That was for times when I was not in the bed with them.

I think she rolled off the bed once, but as it was a futon on the floor,
neither of us woke up for that (she more slid off than rolled off). But
given the futon was only about 6-8 inches thick, it just never was an issue.
What we'll do next year? I dunno yet.
