bleach for kids' clothes
I have few white onesies I'm going to re-use for my baby. You won't
believe they are white even if I tell you. They were hand-me-downs to begin with. I was wondering if it's ok to run them through a bleach cycle once and wash them again to get rid of the bleach. I plan to do this only once to get rid of the gunk. Once they look reasonably white, I will wash them in regular cycle. Or should we never use bleach on infants' clothes at all? Also, at what age is it ok to use bleach regularly for kids? Thanks. |

Isn't there some nappy wash detergent that works on whites? It's meant to remove stains from terry nappies. I think in UK it's called "nappy-san" or something. I'd still was them again after using it though. Debbie |

I've used bleach on baby things and neither of my kids have any neg. reactions. It shortens the life of the clothes if you do it to much. In the summer I bleached, washed in warm/warm, and hung on the line to dry. The sunshine works fabulously on the stains the bleach didn't quite get 100%. I am so going to miss my nice big clothes line this summer. -- Nikki Mama to Hunter (4) and Luke (2) |

I always bleached the white baby clothes. If the bleach bothers you, run
them through a second rinse cycle. "ted" wrote in message om... I have few white onesies I'm going to re-use for my baby. You won't believe they are white even if I tell you. I always used bleach on white clothes, including babies clothes. I never
knew there was a problem. -- Sue (mom to three girls) I'm Just a Raggedy Ann in a Barbie Doll World... ted wrote in message om... I have few white onesies I'm going to re-use for my baby. Why couldn't you bleach whenever you want? I've never had a problem with it. You just don't want to bleach too often, as it weakens the fabric. If you're fussy or your machine doesn't rinse all that well, then double rinse. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it at all. Best wishes, Ericka |

I use Napisan, which is an oxygen rather than a chlorine bleach (the active ingredient is sodium perborate). It's designed for use with cloth nappies, as you can guess from the name, but is good for just about anything. Don't leave coloured clothes in it for too long though. Napisan! Thank you! I couldn't remember the name :-) Debbie |
