I've had a really long day at work that included lots of walking,
especially up and down stairs. I've just started my 2nd trimester and when I got home this evening and changed my clothes I saw that I had bled during the latter part of the day. I do remember sitting on the train and feeling as if I were but I've had this sensation before and when I've gone to the bathroom to check there hasn't been anything, so I don't think much of it. I was really shocked when I actually saw blood; it wasn't really red, more of a brownish color. But it's definitely enough to stain a pad, not just spotting. I'm not sure what to do. Do I call my doctor? go to the hospital? I haven't even said anything to my DH because just yesterday he was telling me that I've been doing too much lately and I need to slow down. I brushed him off and told him I was ok. I was! But now this really has me scared. This is our first and most probably only child and I hate to think that I've put his/her life in jeopardy. I'm 39 btw. I checked "What to Expect When Expecting" and it didn't say anything that makes me particularly worried, but I am. I'm supposed to go to a wedding tomorrow up in Oxford (I'm in London), but now I think maybe I should stay home since it's going to be a very long day, most probably 12pm-12am. Help! |

In all honesty just call your doctor. It's probably something that they would want to know about anyway. It might be nothing but it might make you feel better to talk to them and maybe even see them today to have you checked out. |

If not, lie down with your feet up, I had a "threatened m/c" at 10 wks with my first PG which sounds exactly like what you have described and that's what I was told to do. I had a small pool of blood just out of nowhere which frightened the pants off me, but amounted to just that, a small pool of blood. Ring NHS direct for advice and try not to worry. If possible, don't go to the wedding and just rest tomorrow and see how you go. BTW you are entitled to see a doctor 24 hours a day, so don't feel bad about calling them out to see you if you are in any way worried whatever time of night it is. Your surgery should have an oncall number or a redirect on their answer phone which will help you. Most importantly though, don't panic or get stressed at this stage, irregular bleeding is common in a lot of pregnancies, and often means nothing at all. OH, and tell DH. He may not be able to do anything useful to physically help you at this point, but he may be able to calm and reassure you. Take care! UberMinx |

You will have decided what to do by now, but for future ref. NHS Direct are good as Mark suggested. You can also phone your local maternity unit and speak to someone. They are up all night anway, so you don't need to worry about getting an on-call GP out of bed. You are of course entitled to get an on-call doctor, but I can see why you might be reluctant at midnight. The fact that you have no cramps is a good sign. I had early bleeding and then a few weeks later a big but single loss of red blood. I have no idea what it was, it scared me silly, but everything was fine. Please let us know. Mary Ann |

I bled a lot while I was pregnant with my eldest. First there was the
implantation bleeding - which I wasn't expecting so it scared me silly. Then I had spotting at 6 weeks or so, then I ended up in the Emergency Room with a hemorrhage (I think) near the end of the first trimester. My DS was born at term, beautiful and healthy. I also bled once while pregnant with my DD. After watching a movie (the first Harry Potter ![]() underwear. I was terrified but again, everything was just fine. Iirc, I was 16 weeks as of that incident. Again, my daughter was born at term, beautiful and healthy. -- -- Vicki Married DH May 21, 1995 Ima shel DS, born 11/16/99; and DD, born 5/19/02.
