The Constant Gardener (2005) *Must See*
Has everyone seen the new movie about big pharma???
When a British diplomat's wife -- a socially-conscious lawyer -- turns up dead in Kenya, he sets out to find the truth surrounding her murder. In the process, he finds out that his wife had been compiling data against a multinational drug company that uses helpless Africans as guinea pigs to test a tuberculosis remedy with unfortunately fatal side effects. Therefore those who may have had the most reason to silence her are closer to home than he ever imagined. http://tinyurl.com/bzz8r Donna |

Now, back to reality.... |

"Kevysmom" wrote in message lkaboutparenting.com... Has everyone seen the new movie about big pharma??? http://movies.yahoo.com/mvc/dfrv?mid...yuzMJ1O_5fhQ-- Review here... Put this movie on the compost heap by metrogone (movies profile) Aug 31, 2005 204 of 804 people found this review helpful With such a wonderful cast how could this movie have turned out so meandering and uninteresting? What a controversial subject: Big business evil, little guy from third world good. Wow lets take another shot at big pharma companies, how bold. The movie actually says: "Big pharmaceuticals, they're right up there with the arm dealers." (say what?) Not only is the premise weak but the hyperbole is over the top. Pharmaceutical companies do a lot of good, sometimes they make mistakes but they certainly don't behave the way this movie depicts them. Arms dealers on the other hand are in the business of killing. The only thing positive to say is that at least this movie isn't the typical tripe coming from Hollywood these days. Instead of wasting 10$ on this movie, donate money to the victims of Katrina or any other favorite charity, you will end up doing more good than this movie pretends to be doing. |

The Constant Gardener
BY ROGER EBERT / September 1, 2005 Like many Le Carre stories, it begins with grief and proceeds with sadness toward horror. Its closing scenes are as cynical about international politics and commerce as I can imagine. I would like to believe they are an exaggeration, but I fear they are not. This is one of the year's best films. http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/.../50826001/1023 Sounds like its going to be a box office hit!!! Donna |
