What's the impact of dressing our children as adults?

I'd never be caught dead in those. Tacky, tacky, tacky. I think you are talking about "Raunch Culture." There's a book out on the subject. I saw it promoted on Oprah. jen The idea of something written on your rear end, I don't care if it's Scripture, jut yucks the tar out of me. |

What's the impact of dressing our children as adults?
bizby40 wrote: You know, I don't really see lip gloss as makeup. It smells good, sometimes tastes good, they put it on, and then lick it off. I don't think we've ever gotten any official "lip gloss" but I have bought tube after tube of flavored chapstick hoping to entice them to wear it, unfortunately they won't. And then DD in particular gets horribly chapped lips in the winter. I've even tried sneaking into her room to put vaseline on her lips after she's asleep, but she always wakes up. :-( FWIW, Spencer's Gifts (of all places!) has Happy Bunny lip protection sticks -- they're not as glossy as lip gloss, but not gummy like ChapStick. The one I got smells and tastes like bubble gum and the cap has a little Happy Bunny charm dangling off it (it also says 'It's Not Fair to You How Cool I Am) -- as an FYI. I don't think it cost more than a couple bucks. Maybe the 'cute' factor will override the 'don't wanna put stuff on my lips' factor, especially since it smells and tastes good. And it does have a little bit of sheen to it... Leah |

I don't know anyplace where schools go into July unless they miss a lot of days and have to make them up. Or unless it is a year round school of some kind. IIRC the school year has to be at least 180 days long but it can be distributed however the local school board decides to do it. The UK and European model appears to be more or less the same as what parents have for leave - everyone goes on vacation in August. That's not normally the way we do it here. Generally US schools start at the middle or end of August or beginning of September and (as Dorothy said) we go to the end of May or the first couple weeks in June. The ending date is determined by the starting date and the number of days that we are out for inclement weather. We get off two days for Thanksgiving in November, from about December 15th to the 2nd of January, and usually there is also a spring break sometime in the spring. Sometimes the spring break is reduced or canceled if we have a lot of snow days. Then there are various other three day weekends (President's Day in Feb, Memorial Day in May, Labor Day in Sept.). Locally, there are or were some accommodations made so that the local farm boys can have a couple of days off the harvest the tobacco (which is not mechanized), and we also have a day off for the local county fair in September. |

Secondly, I wouldn't assume that because someone is posting on Usenet they aren't doing their job. And, some schools are year round, which means some students and teachers are in school while others are off -- all year round. |

DS is off track, so he doesn't start until August, but the rest of the school will start in July. |
