Please Sign The PLEDGE OF SOLIDARITY for Pro Se Litigant Rights!
Dear Justice Seekers -
As someone who has dedicated 17 of his 26 years of paralegal experience assisting Pro Se Litigants with their litigation needs, I am a STAUNCH supporter of the RIGHT TO SELF-REPRESENTATION. In my view, EVERY AMERICAN has a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to represent themselves in any legal proceeding, without fear of harassment, injustice or judicial prejudice; and no law, regulation, or policy should exist to abridge or extinguish that right. In honor of the foregoing principles, I have launched a nonprofit organization called P.U.L.S.E. - PEOPLE UNITED FOR LEGAL SYSTEM EQUALITY. The purpose of PULSE is to develop and administer a grassroots, educational, and legal support campaign advocating for necessary reforms to prevent the harassment, prejudice and abuse often suffered by the Pro Se Litigant at the hands of the Legal System. Contrary to the mainstream view on the part of many judges and lawyers, those who decide to litigate their own cases without the aid of an attorney are not SECOND-CLASS CITIZENS deserving of contempt and prejudice, but rather BRAVE AMERICANS with an inalienable right to have their legal cause adjudicated with FAIRNESS and JUSTICE. It is not easy being a Pro Se Litigant. For most, it can be a very difficult and even frightening task, especially when having to contend with the pressures of earning a living, tending to a family, and coping with the other day-to-day responsibilities we all have. Those who attempt it should be honored, rather than scorned. Pro Se Litigants are NO LESS ENTITLED TO DUE PROCESS than those who access the Legal System through the services of an attorney. In a DEMOCRACY, it is reasonable to expect our courts to be kind, patient, fair, and welcoming to all those who come before it. It is also REASONABLE to expect that in a democracy, JUSTICE SHOULD BE FREE and should not be contingent on spending money to hire an attorney to get it, particularly when those fees are unregulated and outside of the Legal System's control. After all, with the BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF TAX REVENUE spent annually on the administration and maintenance of the Legal System (the buildings, their contents, utilities, salaries for judges and court personnel, etc.), it is logical to assume that the Pro Se Litigant has already "paid his/her dues" to the System. In order for PULSE to have the greatest effect, a grassroots network of like-minded supporters needs to be organized. Our voices need to be heard throughout this great country of ours, both for the victims of the Legal System and for those of us who may someday after to access the System for our own needs!! To that end, I submit for your review my PLEDGE OF SOLIDARITY, which has been posted online (click here ---- PRO SE LITIGANT RIGHTS!), or it can be emailed to you as an attachment, if you contact me at . I hope you will sign the Pledge, and respectfully request that you kindly distribute it to your friends, family members, neighbors, co- workers and anyone else who believes in the principle of JUSTICE FOR FREE, JUSTICE FOR ALL. LET'S TAKE BACK OUR COURTS from those lawyers, judges and court administrators who, in the interest of protecting THE ATTORNEY MONOPOLY, perpetuate an antagonistic and often abusive legal system calculated to discourage self-representation in favor of making ALL AMERICANS "paying customers" for the attorneys. The more signatures that are collected, the more credibility PULSE will have when approaching the courts, legislatures, and the media about addressing the serious VIOLATIONS OF JUSTICE suffered by the Pro Se Litigant. Please sign the Pledge Statement and return it to us via fax, regular mail or by email attachment. Also, I would very much welcome your help in distributing the Pledge through out your network, as well as any ideas you have that would help me get the word out on this very important mission to others. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ JOSEPH L. DELGADO Founder/Executive Director, People United for Legal System Equality - P.U.L.S.E. "The public welfare demands that constitutional cases must be decided according to the terms of the Constitution itself, and not according to judges' views of fairness, reasonableness, or justice." -- Justice Hugo L.
