Is it possible? Any good tips how? I got a questionnaire which basically qualified me with a note saying something along the lines of "you will be summoned within the next year" My husband works 40 miles away, I have no childcare (all family lives hours away) and all my usual baby sitters either work or are in school all day. Oh, and Im still nursing Xander. Right on the questionnaire it said that needing childcare, transportation or work reasons did not qualify to reject you. What crap!!! I really really don't want to serve but if I get summoned, I will do whatever I can to NOT serve. Please no reponses how it's my duty as a US citizen, heh, I've wanted to leave this country for years now (can't convince dh) Thanks, Kari mom to Kaylie, Noah and Xander You probably have to show up for voir dire. If you are opinionated at all on "pro-prosecution" topics such as cops (how you view them), the judicial system and racial profiling, you will be excused by one side or the other. -L. |

Oh, and Im still nursing Xander. Right on the questionnaire it said that needing childcare, transportation or work reasons did not qualify to reject you. What crap!!! They may not categorically qualify you for rejection, but OTOH, sometimes nicely explaining your situation will get you a deferment. Of course, they did give you up to a year's notice, and I think that's a pretty reasonable wake-up call that you need some kind of support network. It's always a good idea to have another family with whom you can socialize and trade babysitting service, anyway. I have that. But all the mom's work full time out of the home. Everyone I know around here has a dual income. *Everyone* seems so suprised to learn that I SAH. learned the value of this the night I had to drive DH to the ER. If we didn't have next-door neighbors with whom we'd established friendly relations earlier, we might have been dragging 3 kids under 10 along with us, then trying to amuse them as bedtime passed and we waited to see a doctor. Lori G. When I went into labor, one of the friends aformentioned came over at 1am to sit with the kids. She did have to work the next day and called in sick. I watch her kids on a regular basis i.e, weekends, so she can work. We have no problem finding after school care and my husband works until 3:30 so it's just during the day. We have probably 4 or 5 families we "hang out with" in the area. ALL work full time. My mom would most likely have to come up and watch the baby for me or my husband would take personal time if it went beyond a week. |

"Sophie" wrote in message ... Where do I begin? Seriously, it's not just the jury duty, it's the entire government at the moment. I think the entire judicial system is whacked for a lack of a better term. My husband served 11 years in the Navy and it was ridiculous how poorly he was treated, how we were treated (granted, it may have just been our location and duty station) but it left us with a bad taste in our mouths. We're paying out the wazoo for health care, the media, it's a lot of things. Im a far left liberal and with the elections almost upon us, Im terrified of something in our country not changing. The direction in which we have been going is mind boggling - at least to me. I've been trying to get us to relocate to Canada for a few years now. My husband can do a direct transfer right across the Lake (Ontario) from the power plant he now works at to Pickering. He doesn't want the hassle of immigration and having to switch over citizenships, sell the house and possible get rid of our beloved pets. He also loves where he works although he's pretty disgusted with the US for the same reasons as I am. Kari Why would you have to give up your US citizenship to live in Canada? I've been in the US (off and on) since 1978 and still have my Canadian citizenship. I dont know. I guess we dont know all that much about it other than the few people he's talk to who work over there (all are US citizens who have transferred over) I think he was concerned more with the kids. I am pretty sure they can get dual citizenship but not sure. I'd do it in a heartbeat. I don't see it actually happening though. |

"newfy.1" wrote in message ... "firedancer623" wrote in message news:xpWbd.309$EL5.129@trndny09... Well I have a few medical issues which I've heard can also cause a dismissal since one is anxiety related. If that isn't enough, in combination with the SAHM w/no childcare then I suppose I will have to figure out. I highly doubt I'll get chosen because, as noted in the first post, I dont hold much regard for our government and the judicial system. Im sure that will come across if I make it that far. FWIW, my dismissal was completely random. You call the night before, listen to a list of names, if yours is on it then you're out. JennP. So, you didn't know until the night before? Did you know that you had been chosen much further in advance than that? Im lucky in that, if I get chosen and have to actually serve, my husband has a very relaxed work environment that he'd be able to take off some time to take over with the kids and not lose pay (he'd have to make it up though) I'd have to do that as a last resort, on short notice. Why can't they call him, he wants to do it!!! |

So, you didn't know until the night before? Did you know that you had been
chosen much further in advance than that? That's basically how it works in Indiana. I got a letter in the mail saying that I would be called up sometime in the next year and to write onthe form if there were any weeks I would be unable to serve (vacation, work issues, holidays, whatever). Then, a month or so before the given date I got another letter telling me what my week was, and that I had to call a phone number every morning to find out if I'd have to report the following day for selection. I called every morning, but was never called in, and that was the end of it. Naomi CAPPA Certified Lactation Educator (either remove spamblock or change address to to e-mail reply.) |

The process of choosing is what I think is wrong. There has to be a better solution, why not choose jurors who WANT to serve. They're out there. I'd say half of the people I know love serving. You should have a choice. Being forced into anything is wrong, IMO. |

In that case, at least I'd know that *week* to make arrangements. I'm more concerned with just out of the blue getting a letter saying I'd have to be there *tomorrow* Even if I knew that it could be sometime within the year, that's a pretty broad range. |

I'm not in the US, but I think it's somewhat similar here in Canada.
The first time I got summoned I wrote that I would be six months pregnant at the time and since I didn't know how long something like this would last I was able to be excused without even going in at all. The second time I got summoned I had no excuse not to go other that I would miss work so I had every intention of going. Then a week before the date they called and said it had been plead out. So again, no jury duty. Also, chances are, even if you had to go in that first day there are so many others there, chances are you wouldn't even get picked. I wouldn't worry to much. I'm sure you could work things out. Shelley mom to Jacob (2.5) edd mar 30/05 "firedancer623" wrote in message news:gKUbd.441$Ug4.389@trndny01... Is it possible? Any good tips how?
