Default this can't be true...

I just thought I would spread this little bit of information, but I'm
not sure if I believe it or not...

My husband was watching the news the other morning while we were
getting ready for work. They usually have a topic for preg mom's and
expecting daddy's, mostly about dieting, and nutrition, sleep patterns
etc...

This particular topic was about 'stress durring pregnancy' which, I
have found out there is plenty to go around with all of these hormones
and such. I don't pay much attention to the tv while getting ready, and
I wish I would have this time. My husband stated to me while I was
unloading the dishwasher, that the news said that pregnant women who
stress more durring their pregnancy, have smarter babies. Could that
really be true? I wish I would have been paying attention so I knew
more about it, but I didn't.

Sorry, I also looked for a news heading on the net for something of the
same sort, and didn't find anything.

Huh. I deliberately stay as calm and quiet as I can while I'm pregnant
so I *don't* stress the fetus. My dh gives in to me on everything (not
that I'm demanding) so that I don't stress. Geez.

I've been trying to stay stress free, although my job, and most of my
daily activites are high-risk environments. I try 'pampering' myself
every once in a while, and have even taken up croche as a hobbie (im
making a little blanket) and as something to help me bond with my
unborn son.

As for the noise, I was told by my Dr not to worry about it. Many of my
friends, and co-workers have even told me... don't be quiet when you
think he's sleeping, because when he's born, he'll be adapted to sleep
though anything. I believe this to be true, because my cousin did this,
and her baby sleeps though the vaccume and the tv!

It's also kinda hard for me to try to get him in a normal sleeping
pattern, because I don't even have one! I work night shifts, and
usually don't get home and roll into bed till around 12:30-1:00AM. I'm
up with my hubby around 7:30AM while he gets ready for work and take an
hour nap around 2:00PM before going back to work at 5:00PM.

On top of the noise and sleeping patterns, I have 2 dogs, not little
dogs either, who bark and demand attention. A 5 year old nephew that
comes over every weekend (we are taking care of his hermit crab) who
loves to sit on the sofa with me, and feel the baby kick. I'm not very
far along, only 22 weeks now (definite boy) and still only look as if I
ate way too much for dinner! I have only gained 10lbs and trust me...
my food consumption has nearly doubled! Is that unhealthy or am I on
schedule?

Hi Ash

I couldn't find much in the way of conclusive evidence either way regarding
stress. However, my sis-in-law lives with my noisy brother, and their 3yo
and newborn sleep through everything, so I guess it's good to get some noise
in around you.

As for weight, I've had horrible morning sickness all the way through this
pregnancy, and I am only just beginning to weigh what I did pre-pg (at 38
weeks) so I wouldn't worry about weight - my midwife hasn't weighed me at
all so far, and I don't think they do so much now as it doesn't seem to have
much bearing on the weight/health of your baby, especially given as
diet/fitness has such different effects on different people. I'd just tend
to keep an eye on it and mention it to your doc/MW if it's a concern to you.

Lucy,

Congrats on your little girl! I haven't had much morning sicknesss at
all. I did in the first 3 months, and then it stopped. I also have had
lactos-intolerance my whole life, until I became pregnant. I've been
loving it! I can actually hold down milk, ice-cream and yogurt with no
problem. I'm not trying to stay skinny, and I'm eating healthy... I
just can't seem to raise my weight. I weighed 103lbs before I became
pregnant, and now I weigh 110lbs after 22weeks. 7lbs doesn't seem like
enough to me, but maybe I'm just paranoid.

Other than fatty foods, does anybody else know a good way to gain
weight? I'm afraid that one day when the Dr does weigh me, he will say
I haven't gained enough. I like the diet I'm on. I've been taking in
ALOT of fiber (helps me stay 'regular') and protein. As for exercise
I've been doing the Kagels and abdomen lifts (I learned from "What To
Expect When You're Expecting") and my husband tries to keep me active
by Sunday walks and Tuesday hikes (with PLENTY of breaks and water!) If
anybody needs great outdoor activities to do with their 'others' this
has been great for us. It not only gives us something to do together,
but it's something we have in common, and with our busy work schedules
we don't see eachother very much except those 2 days. Hold hands too!
It always brings back the 'dating' sensation! And if you live in Utah,
go to Antelope Island! Last week was my first time there, and they have
some awesome trails that aren't too hard on your legs and back.

Best wishes everyone!
Ash

This brings back a memory or two!
When I was 5 months pregnant with my first, we went on this hike
that we didn't think would be too bad. Eight km through the mountains
with a 10 metre elevation change, then 8 kms up to a pass.
Unfortunately, the 10 metre elevation change was a net change between
the start and the end point, there were plenty of ups and downs. But I
was feeling ok, so we started up the pass. About half way up, there was
lookout spur that was only half a km or so on a flat, so my dh asked me
if I wanted to just do that. I figured, I came this far, we should just
finish. So we made it up the pass, which was wonderful. Although it was
late September and absolutely gorgeous weather, blue skies, warm temps,
there was 6 inches of snow in the pass itself. The view was
magnificent! There were elk and bighorn sheep all over the place.
Then we started back down. It took us almost 12 hours to complete
this hike! When we got back to town, we stopped at the first
restaurant, but it was up some stairs. I could hardly walk up the
stairs. Then we sat and ate our supper, and relaxed, our muscles
relaxing...then stiffening up. I had to laugh on the way back down the
stairs. I couldn't bend my legs far enough to make the stairs. I was SO
stiff and sore, I couldn't bend at the waist, or at the knees.
My dh swore that I could no longer make any sorts of decisions
regarding my personal safety, but I have to say, he was as tired and
sore as I was!

I'm also lactose intolerant and for me pregnancy made it worse. For me, the
first signs of being pregnant with #2 was getting nauseous after my morning
coffee! That was pretty much what started triggering morning sickness for
me - milk in coffee. With #1 I had to give up coffee altogether, I felt sick
after it even in the afternoon.

I'm probably as far along as you are and I've put on about 5kg (11 lb?). And
that's AFTER I lost 6kg at the beginning. So I'm back to pre-pregnancy
weight. 7lb weight gain sounds pretty good to me and not too low. Some women
don't put on much weight at all so I wouldn't worry too much. If your US
show a healthy baby who's growing at the right rate and you're feeling good
and healthy, I wouldn't try to purposely put on weight. Stick to a good diet
and both you and the baby will get what's best. I think most of the weight
gain comes right at the end, anyway, so your 7 lb gain will probably
increase in the end.

If you are not restricting your eating or eating complete rubbish, you are
fine -- but you may suddenly find you put on a lot quickly.

Well, I have no idea if it's true or not... But, if it is true, then I guess
that DD is going to be an absolute GENIUS, based on all the stress I had
while pg with her... EVERYTHING from normal every day stresses to extra,
unnecessary stresses caused by others...
Haha if only this were true facts that I've heard of lol
