Worried about DD
scary, the two things could of course be unrelated, Nathanael intermittently
has blood in his urine, just like you describe on the pants, the cause for him is a very mild blood clotting disorder that is very rarely diagnosed in boys, it is usually diagnosed in women due to heavy periods, it's a genetic one and as he has it we have now worked out that it comes from me, my mum and my gran, it makes our blood look like we are on warferin or aspirin when we're not. Why would they be positive once and negatie the second time though?? Lab error maybe, or maybe he just tested for a UTI. Either way, if she's screaming in pain when she goes to the bathroom, she needs to see her doc. Jess |

Oh, she's not in pain to pee anymore, and when they retested they tested for
the whole shebang, protein, blood, white blood cells, everything.... "Jess" wrote in message news:2089f.41270$fE5.3459@fed1read06... "CY" wrote in message news:vZ69f.501793$_o.34179@attbi_s71... Well, they retested after they treated her, right? So she had a UTI. They treated her. They retested. She tested negative. Is that correct so far? So, ok - now she is symptomatic again. Presumably another UA will show blood, protein, and WBCs! If it were my daughter I would be asking about a urine culture. If she had another UTI in the short-term, I would be asking about imaging studies to rule out an anatomic or functional issue predisposing her to UTI. "Hillary Israeli" wrote in message ... Well, they retested after they treated her, right? So she had a UTI. They treated her. They retested. She tested negative. Is that correct so far? Not quite! She had a *suspected* UTI and sent the first urine for analysis. It was positive for Pseudonmonas, but doc assumed it was a contaminant and told me to discontinue the Keflex they had prescribed (she took for 5 days). A week or two later, she had another urinalysis and it was positive again for Pseudomonas. Doc wanted to treat her with Cipro, and assumed that *two* samples couldn't possibly be contaminated. We tested urine again (about another week later) and the third time it was negative, with no WBC's, blood or protein. FWIW. We got an ultrasound and it was normal. Thank God. Doc thinks she had an external infection and had me treat with hydrocortisone and Epsom Salts, and she is much better. I am still very nervous though and am watching very carefully for signs of recurrence. Thanks for your help. My daughter had a similar problem with external irritation/inflammation, and it's been six or eight months now, and she still makes a fuss over needing to "pat dry" after using the potty, instead of "wiping," because the doc had told us to make sure she was very gentle there, and I guess it stuck -- Hillary Israeli, VMD Lafayette Hill/PA/USA/Earth "Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend.
