Child care and taxes for non-cust parents
I was doing my US federal taxes and I found out the following. I already knew
I could not get the Child Tax Credit (as the child must live with you 50% of the time). But I also learned I cannot deduct any child care expenses (I have to pay a portion of all child care) as I am the non-custodial parent. However I was able to deduct the premiums I pay for medical insurance for my son, as well as my portion of medical expenses I reimbursed my ex for. Child support is not deductible. -- Sig: Say no to fixed width HTML tables. They look terrible in most browsers. |

So I think he wants some sort of a big Hero Daddy Biscuit or something... It seems everything I pay towards my children is not deducted from anything but my meager bank account. Do I get a cookie as well? |

Custodial parents can not claim child support on their income taxes either, as well as married couples can not claim child support on their taxes ,"child support" is any money either parent spends to help support their children, and guess what ? you can't claim it. Why would you think anyone should? The money is not considered income for the parent receiving it either, WHY? you ask ........because it is both parents responsibility to support the children they produce. Simple as that. Hope this helps. Bev |

Of course! Which reminds me... I probably should make some muffins or cookies of some sort for B's class since his birthday is next Tuesday... Poor kids... If only I really could bake lol |
