THE F CRIME: ABC MEANS (A BIG CROCK (OF SH*T)...

OPEN LETTER (archived for global access; see below)

Peter Kimber
Producer
ABC

Peter,

Please read Eleanor Krinsky's excellent letter to you below.

Apparently, no one at ABC knew about the fact that eleven EPA unions
representing 7,000 EPA scientists and lawyers and other EPA professionals
are calling on Congress to end fluoridation in part because of a study
indicating that fluoride may be causing bone cancer in boys...

Or maybe ABC simply "forgot" to mention the remarkable action by the eleven
EPA unions...

Please do the story again - balance it this time.

Please include the website where people can sign a petition supporting the
eleven EPA unions in calling upon Congress to end fluoridation.
http://www.powalliance.org/petition

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Todd

PS CRIME...

My thanks to Paul Connett, PhD for notifying everyone of ABC's grossly
unbalanced coverage...

But I am wondering why Paul is still silent about the fact that the common
law doctrine of informed consent indicates that administrating medication to
everyone without everyone's consent ("fluoridation") is a CRIME/battery.

Curt Smith, DDS (interviewed by ABC) and Bellingham Families For Fluoride
appear to be attempting to commit the crime of mass battery against
residents of Bellingham who do not want the toxic waste fluoride in their
water.

From a legal presentation in Washington State...

Basis for Informed Consent
Battery
€ defendant is held liable for any intended action that
results in physical contact for which the plaintiff has
given no permission.
€ a defendant need not have an evil intent.
€ injury need not result.
Liberty
€ basic human right to control what happens to one¹s
body.
€ independence from controlling influences.

KEY POINT:

"FLUORIDATION" IS A **HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE** CRIME...

Sulphuric acid is poured over phosphate ore to produce American Dental
Association/ADA-approved dental health products (fluorosilicic acid, arsenic
and lead) and phosphate fertilizer.

JUST THINK... "Fluoridation" is the injection of hazardous substances from
fertilizer production waste sites into America's water supply - and CDC's
Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry/ATSDR "work[s] with
states...to prevent exposure to hazardous substances from waste sites."

Yet CDC promotes the crime as a public health measure!

The only thing more incredible is that Paul Connett, PhD fails to mention
this bizarre fact...

Maybe ABC can mention it in a second story.

FAN Bulletin #402: ABC Word News: transcript, critique and letters.

Nov 7, 2005.

Dear All,

Here is the transcript I have made from a videotape recording of the program
on fluoridation which appeared on the ABC World News on Sunday evening Nov
6, 2005.

The piece had two promos within the earlier news:

Promo 1: Later: (Shot of Danielle Weaver and children in kitchen) Why this
mother says fluoride in the water will poison her kids. (over old black and
white TV ad for Crest toothpaste). The growing debate over the safety of
fluoride after 60 years of use.

Promo 2: Coming Up: (Over image of child drinking a glass of water) The
fight over fluoride. Why this issue led to anger (shot of Bellingham), even
a death threat in this community.

News item on fluoridation.

Studio Anchor (Dan Harris): "About two thirds of Americans have fluoride
added to their water (same message printd out over graphic of flowing water
tap) and since it was introduced in this country 60 years ago, tooth decay
in children has dropped by more than 70% (words printed on the graphic and
attributed to the ADA)...

"...but as ABC's Neal Karlinksy reports from Bellingham, Washington (shot of
town) there is a new, growing and sometimes very bitter debate over whether
the fluoride in tap water may, in fact, may be dangerous.

Commentator (Neal Karlinsky): "Bellingham, Washington is a city divided,
even angry, with what to do about its water.

Panelist at public forum (unidentified but actually Dr. Curt Smith):
"...This has been proven to be safe and effective..."

.....Commentator (over scene of audience):..."From community debates..."

Second panelist at public forum (unidentified but is actually Dr. Bill
Ormondson , another dentist).."...it increases cancer, it increases kidney
problems..."

.....Commentator (over shots of town):.."to the families that make up this
college town, the issue is fluoride."

Commentator (Over shots of Smith hammering in lawn sign): "When veteran
dentist Dr. Curt Smith started the campaign to fluoridate the the city's
water he never imagined it would lead to vandalism, and worse..."

Smith: "First, my co-chair Dr. Gass had a death threat in his office - on
the phone - on his voice mail; um, then a few days later I found a dead rat
in my mail box."

Commentator: "The issue reaches a head this week when Bellingham residents
vote on whether the city should add fluoride (over shots of lawn signs,
including the blue sign for Citizens Against Forced Fluoride , which reads
No Forced Fluoride and gives the web address www.nofluoride.com). It is a
debate which hasn't showed up such intense feelings since the 1950s (over
the black and white TV ad for Crest toothpaste). Just as fluoride was being
touted as the miracle ingredient in toothpaste

-little girl in ad. says 'Mum, look no cavities' -

it was also under heavy criticism, branded as part of a communist
conspiracy to poison America".

Commentator: "Today's critics point to studies that show too much fluoride
can be toxic if swallowed."

Paul Ruben (dentist from Seattle): "Yes linkages to thyroid problems (and)
there's five studies from China showing changes in IQ..."

Commentator: "It's a belief Danielle Weaver (shot of Danielle at computer)
teaches her kids..."

Another voice: (shot of Danielle's kids) "What you know about fluoride?"

Child 1: "It's bad for your teeth."
Child 2: "It's a poison."

Neal Karlinski (now on screen): "The Centers for Disease Control calls
fluoride one of the great achievements of the twentieth century, but not
everyone agrees. Bellingham is not alone. Dozens of cities from coast to
coast are now facing similar battles. The CDC calls the controversy silly
(shot of kids washing teeth)"

Dr. Richard Maas (identified as Dir, Divison of Oral Health, CDC): "There
has always been the conclusion that there is no link between fluoride -
water fluoridation and any adverse health threat."

Commentator (over shots of Danielle and kids in the kitchen getting water
from a tap on the fridge): "The Weaver family says it is not taking any
chances. If the measure passes Tuesday, they will install water filters to
remove fluoride from the water. Neal Karlinsky, Bellingham, Washington."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------
A critique.

1) In the very beginning Anchor Dan Harris tells us that tooth decay has
dropped by 70% in the US since fluoridation began. This is totally
misleading because tooth decay has fallen by the about the same amount in
both fluoridated and non-fluoridated communities in the US (Brunelle and
Carlos, 1990) and according to WHO figures - the same declines (or greater)
have occured in the vast bulk of industrial countries which do not
fluoridate.

2) The proponents produced the "dead rat story" again as well as a death
threat. No police evidence has been presented that either of these "events"
ever took place, but they are irresistable to the media. Even if one
distraught person did either or both of these things, it is grossly unfair
to tarnish the whole campaign and muddy the arguments with such "emotionally
distorting" charges. In my view, it was irresponsible of the producer to
have given this slant unless he or she felt that it was indicative of the
overall methodology of fluoridation opponents in Bellingham- which it is
not. This should have been apparent to any independent observer.

3) Note the key word after Paul Ruben states there are studies which
indicate thyroid and IQ problems. We are told that: " "It is a belief that
Danielle Weaver teaches her children." There is no indciation here that
Danielle has read some fo these scientific studies and is convinced by the
evidence - no it is merely a "belief". And worse, "it is a belief" she
forces on her children: i.e.brainwashing.

4) Even though the TV crew spent considerable time interviewing Danille
herself they don't allow her to say a word on screen - that is given over to
the kids!

5) The kids dutifully cough up the "belief" and then commentator switches to
the "mighty " CDC and their infamous quote from their 1999 statement, which
was written by one dentist, did not have external peer review and was based
on health studies which were already 6 years out of date!

6) Unfortunately, those who don't know the sordid history of CDC's role in
promoting fluoridation (or their equally sordid role in covering up the
Agent Orange study in the 1980s and their more recent efforts to whitewash
the use of ethyl mercury in childhood vaccines) would probably be inclined
to take their statements at face value. Thus it was grossly unfair to
juxtapose the CDC's comments with the comments of two small children. It is
like taking a blunderbuss to obliterate a pea.

7) Then to the blunderbuss in person: Dr. Richard Maas. If only viewers knew
the truth. Dr. Maas has probably been chosen by the CDC to head up their
oral division because of his ability to lie through his teeth while keeping
a straight face. This civil servant is not an objective analyst of this
issue but an unabashed propagandist. For example, he knows that the links
between fluoride in water and health effects, which he cavalierly dismisses,
are being scrutinized right now by a 12 person panel selected by the
National Research Council (before whom he testified on the same day I did on
August 12, 2003). Their review has already taken over two years. At the
very least, Maas should indicate to audiences that this review is taking
place and not act as if as if he knew what this panel was going to say
before it has even been completed.

8) The key ppoint, however, is that if the producer was going to go outside
Bellingham to get another opinion, he should have got one from a leading
figure on both sides. They needed a fair balance to Maas. It was troubling
that they didn't use Dr. Bill Hirzy (who was available) to give the position
for the 11 EPA Unions which are calling for a moratorium on fluoridation.

9) Even though the overall impact of the news story produces a distorted
view of the issue, I am not sure whether this was the intent of the
producers or just that they didn't spend enough time to find out the
critical details.

10) Am I glad the program ran? Yes. At least many more Americans (including
politicians) now know that there is a controversy about this issue. It is
just a pity that the producers didn't spend more time doing their homework
in the way that Margot Roosevelt did for Time magazine.

What a pity that the producers didn't even check their own archives on this
issue. If they had done so they would have found an excellent peice on their
own web site which was written by the late Nicholas Regush before he left
ABC.com and set up RedFlagsWeekly.com.

Below, again, is a letter I sent to the producer Peter Kimber at
and also a fine letter that Eleanor Krinsky of
NYSCOF sent in.

Paul Connett

Dear Peter,

I understand you were the producer of the piece on fluoridation.

First, let me applaud you for tackling the issue. You are correct that this
concerns many people around the country - including many doctors, dentists,
scientists and other professionals (see http://www.powalliance.org/petition)

However, the subject deserves a more balanced analysis than ABC gave it.
Less about dead rats and Communist plots and more about the science please -
check out our web page for serious health concerns
http://www.fluorideAction.net/health

Was it fair to use a spokesperson from the CDC without using a heavy hitter
from our side too? If you do this again please interview Dr. Bill Hirzy from
the US EPA unions whose members are opposed to this practice and Chris
Bryson, author of "The Fluoride Deception."

It's bad enough when civil servants, like Dr. Richard Maas - supposedly paid
to protect the public health - act as unabashed propagandists for such an
obsolete practice (note: most European countries do not fluoridate their
water but their teeth are as good if not better than ours and they too have
experienced the 70% decline or more in tooth decay mentioned in your
opening) but it compounds the problem when such propaganda is accompanied by
a lack of basic research on the topic by those communicating the story to
the public.

Would it interest you to know for example that the CDC statement
("fluoridation is one fo the top 10 achievements of the twentieth Century"),
which you parrot, was six years out of date on health studies when it was
issued in 1999 (see http://www.fluorideAction.net/cdc.htm) ?

Would it also interest you, or your viewers, to note that the CDC is not
waiting for the NRC to complete its three year review of the toxicology of
fluoride in water (i.e. all the science that has been published since the
1993 review by this agency, which the CDC cites for its reassurances that
fluoridation is safe!) before actively supporting efforts to introduce
mandatory fluoridation in several states in the US?

I have studied the science of this issue for over 9 years and I think the
public deserves better than you served up tonight.

Dear Peter Imber, Producer, World News, ABC:

I tuned in with trepidation on Sunday evening, November 6th, hoping the
fluoridation segment would be fair to the opposing side of fluoridation,
which position I share. Too often over the years, those pushing
fluoridation have had just about a monopoly on fluoridation coverage,
spinning it the way they choose, with the media dutifully reporting the spin
as proof, barely a question asked. To your credit, I will say that you did
let people know there IS a controversy (has been from Day 1) and
fluoridation will continue to be challenged until this undemocratic,
irrational, risk-laden and failed, most often forced, practice called
fluoridation continues .

I realize there was a very minimal amount of time and that you could not
possibly cover the subject in the depth it deserves. However, I believe you
allocated too much time to attention-getters like "dead rats" and "death
threats" which seems to convey that opponents of fluoridation are fanatical,
dangerous people. The fact is that most people who recognize the wrongdoing
of fluoridation are levelheaded, concerned people from all walks of life,
including professionals and legislators informed on the negative side of
fluoridation. And the negatives are powerful and documented!I

I wondered why you did not cover the recent newsbreaking story of the
osteosarcoma/fluoridation link. Osteosarcoma is a frequently fatal form of
bone cancer, affecting mostly young males, often leading to lifesaving
amputation of a limb.

Also conspicuous by its omission in your coverage is the landmark decision
of eleven EPA Unions, comprising 7000 scientists, environmental and public
health professionals, calling for a national moratorium on fluoridation, and
full investigation and hearings by Congress. Their spokesperson is Dr.
William Hirzy, Ph.D., chemist (telephone: 202-885-1780; e-mail:
).

To your credit, you did, though briefly, have a dentist on who was critical
of fluoridation, you did show there are deeply concerned people who are
adamantly opposed to the deliberate addition of fluoride chemicals to the
public drinking water.

You would do your viewers a great public service and have an outstanding
program by allotting a larger segment to this issue and having spokespeople
like Dr. Paul Connett, Professor of Chemistry, thoroughly conversant with
this issue (fluorideaction.net), and Dr. William Hirzy, EPA scientist, named
above.

Here are some facts your viewers should learn about:

On 10/21/99 and subsequently, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
reported the findings that the predominant effect of fluoride is topical,
not systemic (swallowing). This makes water fluoridation ineffective,
unnecessary, and an extreme waste of taxpayer dollars and grants!

Children who are considered the primary beneficiaries of fluoride,
are actually one of the high risk groups, since fluoride is stored at even
higher levels because of their rapid skeletal growth, than in adults.
Undernourished children from poor areas are even more at risk

Realistically, it is impossible to know the total fluoride dosage
when one considers the fluoride in the public drinking water, the resulting
fluoridated cooking water, and the fluoride in all the foods and beverages
prepared or processed with fluoridated water, the individual consumption of
water, fluoride in toothpastes, rinses, medications, pesticide residues,
etc. The problem is fluoride excess, not fluoride deficiency. In fact,
dental authorities are now recommending NO fluoride for babies from birth to
6 months!

There have been NO safety studies in humans on the use of the
silicofluoride chemicals most commonly used. Masters and Coplan found
children's blood lead levels higher in the silicofluoridated communities, as
corroborated by other studies.

There is also to be contended with the risk of acute fluoride
poisonings due to accidents: malfunctions, overfeeds, spills and/or human
error in fluoridated community and school water supplies.

Virtually all of Western Europe chooses not to fluoridate.
Albany, New York State's capital, rejected fluoridation after examining the
facts. Among many other areas throughout the country, Long Island, NY,
comprising almost 3 million people, rejects fluoridation. So should
fluoridation be rejected nationwide!
