Default smallish baby, no luck pumping

"Vijay" wrote in message
ups.com...
Hi.

My DD is 3.5 months old and only weighs 13lbs, 4oz. Her lowest weight a
few days after we came home from the hospital was 7lbs 13oz. She is
extremely strong and healthy, could hold her head up from birth, has
been able to roll back to front and front to back for a few weeks. My
friend has a 2 month old that is already 12lbs. My other friend has a
baby that gained a pound a week for the first two weeks.

I've been trying to pump to give her extra milk from bottles but I'm
having little or no luck. When she has just nursed an hour or less
before I start pumping I can only get 1/2 oz from each side even if I
pump for 30 minutes. If it has been several hours since she's nursed, I
can get maybe 1oz from each side in 30 minutes. If most of what I pump
is foremilk I just dump it so that the next time she nurses she gets
more hindmilk.

I know she is getting plenty of milk, I hear her gulping when she
nurses. She is not a comfort nurser, she is very clear when she's had
enough and doesn't want any more. The few times she's gotten VERY
hungry between feedings she has "chug-a-lugged" until she overflowed
and spit up a significant quantity, but normally she is not a spitty
baby.

What can I do (or should I do anything?) to help her gain weight
faster? I am so tired of people exclaiming how little she is. She's off
the top of the charts for height, she's just not very chubby, but
that's what people want to see. Myself included.

Thanks!

-Vijay

I realize I am coming in late, but I had to comment on this post.

My DD weighed 7lbs, .6 oz at birth. At 4 months, 13lbs, 7oz. She was
exclusively BFd for almost 7 months. She weighed 20 pounds at one year,
which is average. Her height was/is around 75th percentile.

That said, if your baby acts and looks healthy and has plenty of wet
diapers, I wouldn't worry about it. My ped never said anything negative
about DD's weight; only that she was doing very well.

What Stormlady said. Stop comparing your baby to the others. I learned not
to do that early on.
