Default It's about time.

Seems that great "victory" for the spanking compulsives in Canada is
very likely going to be overturned. Stay tuned.

Spanking will be criminalized. It's about time.

Now, this is funny. Isn't it you who declared "victory" when the Canadian
Supreme Court made its ruling last year? Anti-spanking zealotS are like
weeds, give them an inch and they'll take over your yard. ;-)

What do you think the difference, or differences are, and when does one
become the other on a continuum?

Thanks.

Tami,

The are two differences -- semantics ane the severity of the hitting.
Spanking and beating are both physical assault for anyone in the US over
the age of 18.

But LaVonne, aren't you aware that you must conform to the rules of
this debate set by the compulsives?

You must ONLY deal with the intensity issue, not the assault issue.
Using the obviously illogical claim that because a person is 17.9 years
old they are subject to a different set of rules concerning physical
attack is required.

YOu MUST allow this, for if you do not, the compulsives will have no
argument to make.

So far, I've not seen them successfully defend this on any logical
grounds.

All they come up with is things for metaphore completely unrelated to
physical assault, pain, humiliation that can be done to people based on
their age.

You can't get a driver's license, drink, own a gun, etc. based on age
limitations, so surely you can be assaulted on the same grounds and
call it spanking, a legal fiction....right?

Now go figger!

Sooner or later an honest judge with his or her head clear of
culturally induced (many were spanked no doubt) garbage will come along
and see the illogic of a one day age difference, and we'll see this
barbarity done away with legally. It's happened elsewhere, and it's
happened by administrative awareness and action in school districts so
it's obviously not far off.

Pandering politicos are all that keep spanking alive as an
institutional abuse of children now. And in a representative democracy,
as we have proven in the past, the rights of the minority WILL be
protected, even if it takes time as it did for slavery, and women's
sufferage, and child labor.

Tami, there is a similarity as well.

Both require the hitting of someone else. And all that makes it legal
is a fiction that a child is somehow different on that day they turn
18.
