Default Household chores

Do you give your kids extra chores during summer vacation? Do you have
any trouble getting them to do their assigned chores in general? Do you
pay an allowance for household work?

What are your kids' least and most favorite chores to do around the
house?

My two boys HATE doing the dishes, but the whole family takes turns, so
they see it as fair and don't grumble too much. Jake sometimes needs
threats of grounding before he'll clean his room, but Jeff usually keeps
his clean without us saying anything. They both really like vacuuming
the floors, because they get to use the Roomba. They even fight over who
gets to do it! They really like the idea that it's a 'real' robot.

Bye,
Marlene

They have the same set of chores in the summer and during the school year.
However, they can earn extra money by doing extra chores that are not
required of them.

Do you have any trouble getting them to do their assigned chores in

general?

I don't with my 11 and 9-year-old. I have always had a problem getting my
7-year-old to do chores.

Do you pay an allowance for household work?

I used to, but we decided that keeping up the house wasn't something we felt
that they needed to be paid for. Since about 90% of the mess is theirs, I am
not paying for them to clean up after themselves. However, they can earn
money on extra things that I give them that are not a regular part of
keeping a house running.

I think cleaning up their rooms is the least favorite. Two of my girls
share a room and have a tendency to trash it, but they hate cleaning it up.
My oldest daughter loves to clean up the kitchen and do dishes. My two
youngest, hmm, I don't think they have a favorite, lol. We have hardwood
floors, but have an area rug in the living room, they do like to vaccum it
though.

Ours are still a little too young - Amy's 4 and Nathan's 6. I do have
them put their toys away every night, and they're very good about that,
so hopefully it won't be too difficult to get them more involved in the
housework as they get older. No allowances for now. We're talking about
starting when they're 10. We have a Roomba too, and it really helps keep
the cookie crumbs and cat hair from taking over the house.
