Default Coil and breastfeeding

Hi all,

I've decided that at my 8 wk check up at the doctors (for DD and me) where
contraception is discussed, I am going to ask to have the coil.

I've tried Googling for more info, and I'm still a little in the dark about
certain areas, I'm wondering if you can help...

Will it affect breastfeeding? I'm paranoid about this as I've worked so hard
to cut out the bottles, and I don't want to jeopardise my supply now. Also,
I know I've asked similar questions before, but my brain seems to be leaking
these days (perhaps it's going out of my boobs? ). I can't take the
pill, as it makes me very sick very quickly, and I've never risked the
mini-pill as I'm not reliable enough to take it the same time every day. My
question is, am I ok to get a hormone coil, or is better to have the
non-hormone one?

Thanks

Lucy

Lucy, I'd suggest the hormonal one, you've mentioned bad period pain before
and a non hormonal one can make this worse, whereas the hormonal one should
have the opposite effect. There shouldn't be any concern to breastfeeding,
mini pill is considered ok and you get a lot less in your blood stream from
a coil. If you want to search more try Mirena as that is the name of the
hormonal one.

Everything Anne said. I have done the very same thing and am getting my
tests done with my smear today (uggh). My GP gave me a very informative
leaflet on the Mirena and also on the injections, so I could compare to
two. I also found a leaflet that came with the hospital bumf that
compares all the contraceptions. It looks the same as the coil one so I
imagine your GP will have one too. The best info I have found is
various recent threads on here, so perhaps Google a few.
