Child prostitution has become “an epidemic” in Oakland, CA partly because of the many foster care and group homes that are located there and pimps recruit girls at such facilities.
Police prostitution sting nets 131
Daily Journal wire report Law enforcement officials said 131 people were arrested — including in South San Francisco — in a prostitution and child exploitation sting between July 6 and July 12 in conjunction with the Major League Baseball All-Star game in San Francisco. Oakland police spokesman Roland Holmgren said the sting was conducted because “a significant number” of Oakland-based prostitutes ply their trade at high profile events such as baseball all-star games, pro football’s Super Bowl and the Hot August Nights festivities in Reno every summer. Of the 131 arrests made by 10 agencies that worked together, 46 were in San Francisco, 40 were in Oakland, 28 were in other parts of Alameda County, 11 were in San Jose and three each were in South San Francisco and Campbell, Holmgren said. Holmgren said law enforcement officials conducted undercover operations, posed as prostitutes and engaged in Internet stings. Joining Holmgren at a news conference at the state building in Oakland, Nola Brantley, the director of the Sexually and Commercially Exploited Youth program in Oakland, said child prostitution has become “an epidemic” in the city, partly because many foster care and group homes are located there and pimps recruit girls at such facilities. “Oakland is a hub for commercial sex exploitation,” Brantley said. She said pimps recruit young girls from all over California as well as from out of state to come to Oakland. Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums said his city can’t continue to “have children exploited every day.” Dellums said the solution is to coordinate law enforcement and social services efforts from local, state and federal agencies. “Band-aid and one-dimensional approaches won’t work,” he said. CURRENTLY CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES VIOLATES MORE CIVIL RIGHTS ON A DAILY BASIS THEN ALL OTHER AGENCIES COMBINED INCLUDING THE NATIONAL SECURITY AGENCY/CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY WIRETAPPING PROGRAM.... CPS Does not protect children... It is sickening how many children are subject to abuse, neglect and even killed at the hands of Child Protective Services. every parent should read this .pdf from connecticut dcf watch... http://www.connecticutdcfwatch.com/8x11.pdf http://www.connecticutdcfwatch.com Number of Cases per 100,000 children in the US These numbers come from The National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect in Washington. (NCCAN) Recent numbers have increased significantly for CPS *Perpetrators of Maltreatment* Physical Abuse CPS 160, Parents 59 Sexual Abuse CPS 112, Parents 13 Neglect CPS 410, Parents 241 Medical Neglect CPS 14 Parents 12 Fatalities CPS 6.4, Parents 1.5 Imagine that, 6.4 children die at the hands of the very agencies that are supposed to protect them and only 1.5 at the hands of parents per 100,000 children. CPS perpetrates more abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse and kills more children then parents in the United States. If the citizens of this country hold CPS to the same standards that they hold parents too. No judge should ever put another child in the hands of ANY government agency because CPS nationwide is guilty of more harm and death than any human being combined. CPS nationwide is guilty of more human rights violations and deaths of children then the homes from which they were removed. When are the judges going to wake up and see that they are sending children to their death and a life of abuse when children are removed from safe homes based on the mere opinion of a bunch of social workers. BE SURE TO FIND OUT WHERE YOUR CANDIDATES STANDS ON THE ISSUE OF REFORMING OR ABOLISHING CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES ("MAKE YOUR CANDIDATES TAKE A STAND ON THIS ISSUE.") Dellums said the solution is to coordinate law enforcement and social services efforts from local, state and federal agencies. "Band-aid and one-dimensional approaches won't work," he said. I did notice that not one of the 131 arrests were children. Where IS that epidemic? Nola Brantley seems to be jumping on te bandwagon looking for FUNDING!!! http://havefundogood.blogspot.com/20...antley-of.html September of 2006 Brantley said, "I was sexually exploited [as a minor], and I was preyed upon by a police officer in San Francisco who was supposed to be working a court program that interacted with high school students, and he actually ended up sexually exploiting me over the course of the next year, and he did eventually exploit another minor too, and ended up getting kicked off of the police force. I didn't realize that I had been sexually exploited until I first started to get into this work, and when I realized I had a personal experience with it, it really gave me a passion, and really made me want to get involved, because I understood how much the girls don't understand they're being exploited at the time that it's happening. For a lot of these girls, their stories, and their situations were so, so horrific. Not a lot of people can do this work, because not a lot of people could even deal with what they have to do as they listen to these girls' stories. You think most of these girls, they're just troubled girls. No, most of these girls that are out there, they have some horrific stores, like, 'My mom died and I was passed around to three relatives,' 'I was molested by an uncle.' It's not anything small. They have really huge stories of past trauma and past abuse, and just all kinds of things. I got kind of attached to the population, too, and I wanted to see the work play itself through. I want to see the numbers in the city of Oakland decrease, so I'm committed to sticking to doing this until there's a drop. As long as it's increasing, I'm not going to walk away from it." She didn't realize she had been sexually expoited for a year till she started working in the sexually expoited youth program? Hmmmmmmmm...... |

Do you think that this is accurate, or poor syntax? It claims that the pimps are doing the recruiting AT the facilities, or as is more likely, recruiting girls that are IN such facilities? Like they can't leave? To go an be recruited at the mall, and other places kids hang? Of course they can. Hell, in a mental health treatment facility for teens they were allowed to leave the premises. Mainly because it's (as I suspect also in California) ILLEGAL TO TRY AND STOP THEM IF THEY WISH TO. “Oakland is a hub for commercial sex exploitation,” Brantley said. Makes it sound like it's not going on much anywhere else. Kiddo, the 'burbs, are a favorite spot. They have malls, and places kids hang too. It's not just an urban phenomena. You, a sworn law officer, and you don't know this? Weird, that's what it is. Cities and suburbs, even rural area towns, all have this problem on a scale that likely matches, for rates, this problem and not out of foster homes, but out of CHILDREN who live in their parents homes. It just gets carefully buried in the "nice" places. I don't think you have a braincell left, or an honest bone in your body posting these bits and pieces of driveling nonsense mostly from the opinion pages. Here, dumb one. Like the bank robber said when asked why he chose to be a bank robber, "that's where the money is." Here's the actual article title: Police prostitution sting nets 131 They didn't think the foster/group home link was of sufficient importance to use as a headline...why did you?
