Default Pregnant 15 year old stepdaughter - I've had enough

"Donna Metler" wrote in message ...

Pregnancy tends to be contagious in high schools, so usually if there is a
program available, they really want to get the girls to it before it becomes
too obvious. Too often teens see pregnancy and a baby as being "SOOO cute".

This is true, and terrifying. Pregnant girls (and sometimes grown
married women, too) get lots of extra attention and gifts and special
parking and cooing, and other girls see and want this, especially if
they don't ordinarily get much attention. "If I get pregnant, I'll
finally be special." Yikes. They just don't see how badly it can
ruin lives, theirs and others'. A very few of them manage to become
happy adults anyway, but just a very few.

All this attention can also be addictive. I've known women who have
had more babies than they should have, or could afford, because they
just loved all the extra attention that came with being pregnant. Not
only was it rough on their relationships with their husbands, but it
was stupid because once they finally stopped having babies (a couple
due to the husband's desperation vasectomy to avoid bankruptcy and/or
divorce), they felt resentful that they weren't "special" any more.
Needless to say, their kids aren't doing nearly as well as they could
be if there were fewer of them and/or with a more positive influence
than a mopey mom.

I think Leslie has it right on. The girl should get counseling in
order to make a decision that's right for her after she sees all the
options (and the likely outcomes of those options) and understands the
rules of the house regarding schooling, etc.

I will always wonder, you know?
She has been asking alot about him in the past couple of weeks.

That must be hard for all of you. One day she may seek him out, I suppose.
